On the radar

This is the denim jacket that's up next. It's from the 04/2006 issue of Burda WOF. Although on me, it will look something more like:

The line drawings are below.

This is a 3-dot pattern, probably because it has SEVENTEEN pieces. I don't think the sewing itself is going to be hard, although I'm fairly certain I'll have to seek non-WOF instructions for the notched collar. I don't think I've done a true notched collar before, but I can't remember.

I'm still deciding on fabric, but I've got some time since I'll be doing a proper muslin on this first. I have print denim fabrics in the stash that I bought for denim jackets and which match the olive denim jeans I just finished, so one of those may jump to the head of the line.

Meanwhile, I'll be working on finishing the blue sofa jeans today, among other things. (To get the sofa reference, you'll need to read my previous post.)

  1. I like your jeans jacket pattern very much! Much better than the usual band-bottom.

  2. I was just looking at this pattern last night...and then I thought "Nah, I don't wanna cut out all those pieces". LOL.

You're pic adjustment is too funny ;) When someone over at PR comments in my reviews "but i'd love to see it on you instead of the dressform". I always think...No, really, you wouldn't. :D :D :D

That IS a NY Resolution for me tho...getting over my camera shyness & using my own bum to model more of my stuff!

  3. Debbie, that's one cute jeans jacket! It would also look nice in a non-jeans fabrication, and is such a classic style you could use for years. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

  4. I have enjoyed your blog a whole lot! Thank you so much for all the great pics and alterations. I took some classes two years ago to learn how to make my own cloths. Unfortunately I am great at making bags and boys dress up clothes but have yet to figure out how to make myself stuff that actually fits. I just can't seem to get alterations down. So I am still a beginner. I tell you all of this so you know where I am coming from when I ask about the magazine Burda I am hearing about. Do the patterns come in the magazine? How much does it cost to ship it all the way here? Thanks for your help. Again I enjoy the inspiration you give me!

  5. That should be Sherril said. . . . Debbie, I tried on a jacket like this at Fashion Bug this summer and it looked really good on me. I just couldn't bring myself to actually pay for it. I've got a denim jacket up on deck right now too. Mine's going to be McCalls 5191. ~Sherril~

  7. Debbie ~ the widening of the picture made me LOL! I think you will be able to handle the collar just fine...especially since part of teh jacket front seems to have a piece of the collar on it. Just measure twice before you sew! Can't wait to see the finished version.

  8. I love, love this jacket. I may have to tag along later and make one too. The details are so unique, especially since it comes in plus sizes.
But I'll save it for a 'strong' day, when 17 pieces to trace, cut, cut, muslin?, cut & sew will seem just fine.

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
