Shocking

The dining room is coming along. Beautiful, isn't it? Hahahahaha!! Don't worry, that's only the primer, which is the most hideous shade of Hot Pink. The final color will be a deep red, which we'll start painting after dinner. DH is quite eager to cover up that pink. Speaking of dinner, DH and DS#2 (the one with the newly acquired learner's permit) are picking up pizzas, which is why I'm here with a few minutes to kill.

In sewing-related news … I picked these up from my mailbox today, which means they arrived yesterday. When I can't sew, I buy. Vogue had an online sale so I was on it. Of course they'll be added to the To-Do-Hopefully-Before-I-Die-Along-With-1,000-Others list, as I have to work on the graduation dress before starting anything new. A couple of them I would like to make for summer so maybe I'll get to them before November. ;-) The others I bought just to look at, like the Betzina jeans.

My May issue of Burda WOF also arrived so between that and the patterns I've got some good bedtime reading material for later.

I'm also expecting a couple of other splurge items in the mail this week, but right this minute I forget exactly what. Uh oh. Time to hide the debit card until the dining room is done. ;-)

  1. I'm like you - when I can't sew, I buy too! Good thing I'm mostly productive, LOL

  3. Debbie - you will really like Vogue 8118. I have a review of it on Stitchers Guild. I have fabric for at least two more incarnations of this pattern!

  4. This is interesting. I always thought you did gray under red. Anyway, I LOVE red walls and can't wait to see yours! Good luck with the painting and sewing. I want to see that ruched Vogue sewn up soon.

  5. Stacy said it first - I'm just like you too! Isn't it nice to know we aren't so unique? At least for me, it eases my feelings of strangeness or feeling like I have some compulsive disorder. It can't be a disorder if everyone else does it, can it? :) Love the hot pink. My daughter would like that for her room just as it is. HAHAHA. Not happening.

To MaryT - I learned you paint gray OVER red to cut it out when you want to then paint white. Saw it on some home dec show.

  6. You can paint either gray or a tinted primer as preparation for red paint. I learned this from a visiting "expert" at our local Lowes when I was preparing to paint our dining room red 3 years ago. I just painted the kitchen to match. Love the red!! Your newly acquired pattern list almost matches mine too! I feel reassured about my taste level on both counts! LOL

  7. the red dining room will be fab (says she who also has a red dining room). i'm currently in the process of painting all the trim in our living room and dining room, and then i'll repaint the dining room (red again) but add a stripe, using either gloss paint in the same color, or 2 shades darker.

  9. I absolutely love red dining rooms. But I could only talk my DH into a red powder room. I strongly believe that every house should have a red room, it is very sophisticated. We get compliments all the time on our red powder room. DH now believe that a red dining room would be cool, but after painting the powder room, he won't go near red again...until the next house!

Good luck and post photos when you are done.

  10. Debbie, that is some kind of pink walls. I bet in a house of males, you don't see much pink! I have made 8118 and love the look of the top. I made a poor fabric choice but will make it again.

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
