This Is All I Have

I thought I'd be able to take a few quick pics before heading out but that turned out to be a disaster. I kept tripping over the tripod and then cutting half of myself out of the frame and I forgot to turn off the flash on any of the shots where my eyes aren't looking in two different directions and, well, this is the best of the lot.

At least the colors are better in this one, even if my hair is still soaking wet and my mirror looks horrible.

This one, the colors are back to being off again (and I look half dead).

And guess what a stupid thing I did this morning? Sewed the buttonholes/buttons on the wrong sides of the blouse, even though I do know better. I just didn't doublecheck myself. Arghhh. It's only a problem when I try to button/unbutton it and feel completely uncoordinated. But still.

  1. I guess I am first to comment. I had stopped back in to click on a link and there you are in the new set. It is far better to have a blouse despite the button issue than to have a piece of fabric and a pattern( trust me on this one) laying about. It is sort of hard to wear a pattern and a bag of notions. It looks as if the fit is great and it is a nice set. I am totally impressed. mssewcrazy

  2. its not funny, but every time I put do a shirt I pull out another one to make sure I'm doing it the right way, I guess its not as silly as I always thought!
I love the colors of your suit.

  3. LOL, I always have to pull out DS or DD's RTW jeans and shirts to check fly's, buttons etc directions. I know there's a rhyme but I can never remember it. The combo looks good, wet hair and all.

  4. The shirt looks great and I also always have to double check which side the buttons and holes go on :)

  5. Your shirt is very nice Debbie, you should enter it in the shirt sewalong on 'creative'.

I am kind of disappointed in the Ottobre pattern. I have it traced and even purchased fabric from Timmel's, albeit many moons ago, and designated it for this blouse. Now, I'll have to look at it closer or trash it. Too bad.

  6. Very pretty combination. Love the colors on you! The "which side do buttons go on again?" question surely does seem to plague a lot of us.

  7. I am new to your blog - you are making a wonderful wardrobe for yourself - very nice! I was wondering where you found the lightweight cotton sweater knit for the Jalie top?? I am desperate for some cotton knit fabrics and can't find them locally at all - it is all poly, and we have allergies to poly. Thanks for showing your work - it's inspiring!

  8. The shirt looks very nice and only you'll worry about which side the buttons are on. Wanna feel a bit better? I carefully machine sewed on a button that were already sewn on, just the other day...must have been a bad week for buttons.

  9. Well the buttons look perfect in the mirror!

I love your save on the sleeves and using the collar from the Ottobre pattern. I had similar issues with an Ottobre blouse pattern last year.

Nice outfit--are you headed for an interview???

  10. The blouse looks great. The rest of the work wardrobe does, too. I appreciate your sharing the pictures even though they are not "perfect". Also, I appreciate your sharing frustrations and problems. I learn a lot! Sometimes I feel like such a goofus when I make simple sewing mistakes. I'm so encouraged to hear that talented people like yourself make them, too. When I sew on buttons, I'll think of you. Now, which side is the buttonhole side? I have mixed feelings about your job search. I do wish you success, but I'll miss you as you blogging will be less. Rose

  11. I hate when I do that with the buttonholes. I've done it more than I'd like to admit. No one but you will notice, but still. . .

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
