The 1940s Called …

… and said you ain't no Andrews Sister. ;-)

(Is it just me or is anyone else getting a 1940s vibe from this outfit?)

LaVerne, Maxene & Patty

While I do like 1940s styles, I'm not really feeling the love for this blouse. It's OK, but just OK. The problem is the fabric more than anything. It's shifty and limp and fought me the whole time just like if it were bias cut.

The hem isn't crooked. It's that darn shifty fabric. It even looks like it's bias cut, with the diagonal-ish print. I think it needs something at the point of the V for the eye to rest on. I have some ideas but whatever it is, I don't own it yet.

I like tie blouses but this one feels like I'm being strangled a little. It's too high in the back and the fabric is too floppy to stay neatly folded over.

The jury is still out on whether I'll make it again. I might like it in a more stable cotton, for a completely different look. Or not.

I'll add a review to PR, but first I'm going to take the dogs for a sweat, I mean walk.

BTW NancyK, the pleats are centered exactly under my bust apex and were on the muslin too. ;-)

  4. Debbie, I *really* like this outfit! The blouse has a nice softness to it.

I'm not seeing the 1940's at all. What I'm seeing is your lovely curvy figure. The whole outfit is very flattering. If I didn't know better I'd think you were the one who had been sick, as you look like you lost 10 pounds overnight.

If it's not comfortable though and generally annoying to wear, then it doesn't matter what it looks like. :( Pity, as I like it. Magic wardrobe work your spell.

  7. It's a very lovely outfit! The blouse is so pretty and feminine! Too bad it's just OK and keeps fighting you. That makes it no fun. I agree with Belinda, if it's annoying to wear, it doesn't matter how great it looks.

  8. No, I'm not getting a 1940s vibe from this outfit!! LOL I like the way it looks, but then I often believe I was born in the wrong decade. If you can find a way to breath while wearing it, its definitely worth wearing.
I just finished working with a shifty fabric. I underlined it with bradcloth because I liked it too much to fight with it.

  10. Debbie,
I was so surprised to hear you aren't loving this outfit! It's gorgeous and so flattering on you. It looks comfortable, professional and cool, all things that would be tops in my book for work clothing in a hot climate. Maybe I'm of a different generation and my tastes are based on that, but my vote is that this is my favorite outfit of all the work clothes so far.

  15. I think the top is beautiful. But what I really have to know is what pattern that skirt is!! I LOVE it! It is very flattering. I tried to look around on your blog to see if it says somewhere but I couldn't find anything. Your blog is so full of great info and great sewing though!
