I've had better weeks

Our outside A/C condenser unit died Sunday night. It's a major $$ replacement so it's going to be a few days before we can scrape together the money to get the work done. In the meantime, we have all the windows open, every ceiling and box fan turned on high, and I'm still sweating my butt off. At least the nights cool off a little these days. Arghhh.

The same day the A/C died, we had a big power spike as the electric company workers were doing something at the power station around the corner and blew something or other which killed my monitor, which meant I had to beat feet out to Best Buy that night to buy a replacement so I could work the next day. The only monitors readily available are widescreen. I hate widescreen monitors for computing. I feel like I'm moving my mouse arm 30 extra miles a day. I'll get used to it, but it won't ever be my preference. Arghhh.

I have today off for Veteran's Day and have been trying to finish my JStern jeans. But it's warmer upstairs, naturally, than down so I haven't been making much progress. I also don't love them so that's slowing me down too. But I want them done and OUT of the UFO pile so I can move on. Except what I wanted to move on to was the HP Riviera jacket, but the thought of working in this heat with the wonderful fleece I ordered from Lucy's Fabrics is making me itch. Arghhh.

Have I whined enough? Well, too bad. One more. ;-)

One dark night almost 2 weeks ago, I backed out of my driveway … and right into my son's girlfriend's grandfather's car. She brought over the repair estimate last night. Coupled with the pending A/C bill, I'm going to have to make an insurance claim instead of paying it outright, especially since it's about 3x what I was expecting for a slight dent on the front fender of a 1995 Toyota. Arghhh.

OK, some good news. I had a call today from Jeremy of Hot Patterns. We had a lovely chat and he, Trudy and I are meeting for lunch in a couple of weeks. Should be fun!

Now I'm off to find some cheese. ;-)

  1. Lunch with Jeremy and Trudy?! Well, aren't you the lucky li'l girl... Well, except for all the other crap that you've been going through! LOL! Hope things even out for you quickly

  2. Yikes - you poor woman. At this point, just be grateful that you're still alive - that's about the only other thing that could go wrong! :)

  3. Ouch, ouch and OUCH! You have a right to whine. You can come to my house, where our high today was 45; then you won't mind the AC not being on.

  4. Oh my, I can totally imagine your discomfort. Ugh. I detest WalMart but my friend Mary got these great tower fans there that she uses on her patio. I bought two (they are called Aloha Breeze) and they were a Godsend when the a/c went out. They are whisper-quiet and really do the job. I still use one in my back sewing room during the summer because it never gets cool enough with all the pressing equipment on.

How exciting that you'll be having lunch with Trudy and Jeremy! They are the sweetest people. Jeremy's got the most wicked sense of humor!

  5. I hate it when a bunch of stuff happens like that. Argh! Hope your lunch is a high point for you. We're happy to have highs of 55-60 here lately. Can't imagine sweating.

  6. Debbie, at least you have a nice pair of jeans to wear now. I really like them in the khaki denim and a wonderful lunch to look forward to.
I'm crying with you as my A/C died over 2 weeks ago and we are just holding out, running fans, etc. But I do get to leave each day to go to the office. I received the estimate yesterday!! About $2,000 more than I was hoping for....maybe Santa will bring you and I an A/C for Christmas :)

  7. So you haven't made any progress on the quilt, huh? (wink wink)
I'll send you some cooler weather from here. It's a "balmy" 37 right now!!

  8. Sorry about your problems... just wondering where the repair quote was obtained from; perhaps suggest to the girlfriend to stop by Maaco? They are normally the cheapest -but do quality work w/ guarantee...(if I remember right)

  9. Is it possible that the power company spike that fried your monitor fried your A/C as well?

  10. I second Amy's suggestion about the power spike. I know a spike in a campground killed our 5th wheel's AC a few years ago. I would investigate this--maybe your homeowner's insurance would cover the AC. That is SUCH a coincedence---hmmmmm

  11. Sorry about the AC, that's nasty. And the car, too. But lunch with Jeremy and Trudy? I am jealous beyond belief.

  12. Why is it that bad things always happen in three? I hate heat, so to me, the thought of no air in Florida=yuck! I hope you get that problem taken care of soon! Hope you have a terrific lunch with Jeremy and Trudy. Wow--that is fantastic!

  13. Debbie...sorry about your problems...bummer.

Enjoy your visit with Trudy (and Jeremy?) ...they are so much fun !

  14. Sorry about the A/C. As a former Floridian, I know your pain. We used to replace our units (had two) what seemed to be like every other year.

I hope you'll dish a little about the Hansons. Seems like it would be fun!

  15. I luv ya like a sister, but you get no pity from me about the AC!!! LOL I'm going to the back of the coat closet to dig out my winter coat!!!! On the other matters, you have my sincere hope that things improve for you soon. {{{hug}}}

  16. Lunch with Jeremy and Trudy! I am jealous! It sounds like fun, certainly more than all the breakages in your life!
Well they do say that bad things come in threes, so I do hope that this is it for a while!

  17. All good things come in three as well, cheese, lunch and ????

  18. Sitting by the fireplace, I can't comment on lack of A/C. Piling on pups won't cool you off either :) I do agree about the power surge causing both outages...very suspect. And glad to hear someone else heads for cheese. Chocolate is overrated! K

  19. I had to crack up about your car incident. My sister did the same thing to her son's girlfriend's car. She quit coming around after that too. We got to tease both my sister and my nephew about how to get rid of girls.

  20. Man, what a crummy week. Sorry to hear about everything going wrong. I'm glad you have something to look forward to!

  21. I am very glad you get to have lunch with Trudy and Jeremy. You deserve something good now for sure.

  22. Oh that sucks, no air-con! I hope I didn't jinx you. :(

  23. I know I'm kinda late to comment on this, but I'm not sure if you know that you can adjust your mouse sensitivity for that wide screen.

I found this link: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000909.htm which has info on "How Can I Change the Speed of My Mouse in Windows?"

Hope this makes your week just a little bit better. :-)

  24. Lunch with Jeremy and Trudy? Wow! Give us a full report. I'm sorry to hear about your absence of A/C. Bummer. You're welcome to come visit and watch the cold fog and mist descend in the area. ; )

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
