  3. Yes, the new layout is very nice. I'm glad to read this comparison today because I am researching coverstitches ready to buy in the next week!

  4. Does the lack of a wide harp and a free arm present difficulties on your Babylock? Wondering just how important these features are.

    Thanks for all the info.

  5. Susan, I've never ever missed a free arm on my CS machine and the narrow harp doesn't slow me down either. I have CS'd in the middle of garments, including bulky jeans skirts, and it is definitely possible to do. You do have to rearrange the fabric more often than if you had a wider space, but it can be done.

  6. Is it different from straight stitch

  7. artocraft - a coverstitch looks like a double (or triple) straight stitch on the front, but the back is looped between the rows to provide elasticity.

  8. I want to thank you for your handy comparison chart for the coverstitch machines. I ended buying a Janome CPX at a very good price. I can't wait to try it out.

  9. Thanks so much for your handy comparison chart. I ended up buying the Janome CPX at a very good price. Can't wait to try it out on some knit garments for my granddaughters.

  10. I'm in the market for a cover stitch machine, and it's a toss-up between the Baby Lock and the Elna. My husband is rooting for the BL (because I already have a BL sewing machine and a BL serger, which I love, and because he believes in buying the best.) The Elna is much more affordable though, and I'm thinking a cover stitch is a bit of a luxury item, where I could afford to compromise. It's a dilemma! A happy dilemma, but still... If anybody can suggest a feature or disadvantage for either machine, I'd appreciate the info.

    Hi Debbie,
I just can't thank you enough for this information. I have done tons of research and gone back and forth between a combo machine. Also debated between the Janome 1000CPX and the Babylock cs. I've decided on the Babylock because of the incredible reviews and the variety of things you have done with yours. I keep my machines for life so I don't mind the extra money.

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
