Whew!

Do you know what that is? It's a letter from my USMC Recruit son. Did you hear me scream this afternoon? ;-) It's only a fill-in-the-blanks form letter with his official address (which I already had from his recruiter), but at least some of it is in his handwriting so it's sort of a real letter, right? And this means others should soon follow. Before he left, I told him that I knew he wouldn't have much time to write so even if he only could squeeze in 1 sentence, to just stick it in an envelope and SEND IT. I can't wait until I get some real news from him. But I guess I have to. C'mon Mr. Postman!!

Meanwhile, I've been working in dribs and drabs on another Sunshine top. It's gonna be "summer" here for a few more months, so I'm still sewing hot-weather clothes. I don't think I even own anything wool.

I thought you might be interested in seeing the huge number of pins I use when attaching the gathered front to the neckband. Usually, I don't use very many pins. And if it's a straight seam, none. But for gathers, I pin the bejeezus out of it and then sew right over the pins (gasp!). Works every time.

Here's where it stands now. I probably won't make any more progress tonight because it's now NFL season, baby, and the first game is in one hour. Woot!! Go Vikes! (But I love those Saints too.)

  2. Love that fabric! And you realize...now we all know where you live. Shouldn't you "fuzz" that part out? Peter might come down and do a Bunny bread and Twinkie intervention. :-) But February might be a nicer time of year to do that.

Glad you heard from DS#1. Hope it's going the way he expected.

  7. I gather the shoulders on all of my tops (which need sleeves, because it's 55 here at 9AM today), and I pin the bejeezus out of them, too, and sew right over the pins. I don't pin straight seams either!

I'm so glad you got a letter. It has to help.

  9. That first letter feels so good!!
You're right, they don't have much time or energy to write. I sent my nephew a stack of pre addressed stamped postcards. Even if he couldn't write, he could at least send them back, just to let me know he was thinking of writing. My heart ached every time I got an empty postcard, but I knew he was staying connected. I wrote to him everyday he was at OTC.

Am so happy you got that first letter. I know how much it means.

  10. Awww. How nice to get news from your son. Thought I heard something up here in Michigan. :-) Wanted to comment on your bread buddy. . .love the idea and the name. lol - doesn't everyone sew over pins???? I think my sewing machine has a pin sensor. . .or the pins are shrieking at the machine in pin language.

  11. I can only imagine how you feel getting that letter with some of your son's actual handwriting. Great top. I sometimes sew over pins, too.

  13. A real letter, from the internet generation! That must have felt so good.
I sew over pins too, but I have never gathered like that with so many pins and it's such a good idea.

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
