I May "Got Nuthin" But I Do Have TWO Sons

Seems any family pics for the last few months have either been of the Marine or the pups. I do have two sons and love them equally, but #2 isn't so much of a photo ham these days.

However, I did make him slow down for a blurry cell phone pic so I could document his first real job. Yep, he's made it to the ripe old age of almost 19 (next month) without any typical teenager jobs. Not that we haven't "suggested" employment, mind you. ;-) But in his defense, his extra-curricular activities through high school kept him busy enough that we didn't push the job thing too hard.

He starts at Mickey D's next week, which is also his spring break from community college. He's taking the summer off from school and we pretty much demanded that he NOT lay around all summer playing Call of Duty with his best friend. I'm proud of him for prying the game controller out of his sweaty hands long enough to actually step up, get his long red locks buzzed, and find a job  — especially in an economy where every job is precious.

Paychecks and cheeseburgers. What else does he need? Good luck Alex!

  1. If it's any solace, I worked in a Burger King in my teen years. It builds character.

  2. Oh, I don't need solace, lol. I think any job he'd get right now is good for the experience and future resume. McD's has their sh*t together and he should learn a lot, even if he does spend his time flipping burgers.

  4. Good luck Alex. You held out as long as you could, and longer than I did. Get a good education because if you love the job that pays you money, your life will be immensely more enjoyable. Lane

  5. My Jeff got his long red hair chopped off during his last year of college, but no luck with a permanent job yet. He's off in Pittsburgh this week, crashing with a friend, and interviewing like crazy. Like you said, in this economy, we can only hope.

  9. I agree; jobs like this teach so much more than you realize at the time: Patience, the value of a dollar, what it means to work hard, and if he's paying attention,he might even learn a bit about what it takes to make a huge global corporation successful. Congratulations!

  11. My first job (about 100 years ago!) was at a McDonalds. It was a great job. I learned a good work ethic while making a few extra bucks. Good for him!!

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
