When Life Gets You Down

When life gets you down …

… BUY SHOES!

These arrived today and fit so things are looking up, right? ;-) They are actually a copper metallic, not as brown as they look in this pic. And they are pretty comfortable for someone who has been living in flip-flops.

More random bits of good news:

My interview clothes from three years ago? They still fit. Whew! I've been up and down the scale since I made those, but I seem to be at the down level at the moment, which is good. It means I actually have clothes to interview in. It also means I've been self-medicating with chocolate less than I thought. I'm hoping none of my current clothes fit next year, when I'm settled and happy with my life again.

I've been looking at my pattern and fabric stash the last couple of days and the mojo is stirring. Maybe because the pressure is off to make interview-appropriate garb? So maybe there will be some sewing soon. I wish I had a more work appropriate stash, but I'm sure I'll be able to find something in there. I think it's also time to thin it out so I don't have to move it all, which means you will probably soon see me selling off chunks of it in the PatternReview.com classifieds.

The Marine is flying in tonight for a long weekend. Yay for sons!

A new haircut, which looks great and makes me feel happy. I hadn't had a cut since October so you can imagine how shaggy I looked and felt.

Good news for Leah, who left comment #10 on the Giveaway post. Which means she won! Leah, contact me a djc @ cedesign dot com with your shipping details and I'll get the pattern to you soon. One less thing to pack, right?

And the best news this week? All of YOU!! Thank you SO VERY MUCH for all of your comments and emails. Please know that I have read each and every one. More than once. The outpouring of love and support has really lifted my spirits and is appreciated more than I can ever express.

  7. I haven't commented on your blog before but want to know how much I appreciate all the knowledge you have so generously shared. I was divorced last year after 34 years of marriage. It isn't easy but you will get through it. I now have my own place and a job and am doing great. My children and good friends were my support system which you will find also. Thank you and good luck.

  8. Hi Debbie, I, too, have gone through a divorce. Keep your friends and family close for coming out on the other side. I also want to thank you for all of the advise and tutorials you have on your site. I have gobbled them up ravenously. LOL. You're an inspiration girl!

  10. Debbie, I'm so glad you are feeling like you might want to sew. It's so therapeutic. I think it's how I made it through my divorce 25 years ago. Those are some really yummy shoes too!

  17. Debbie,
I've never commented before, but I've been where you're at! Thanks for taking the time to continue blogging in the midst of everything else you're dealing with. It takes a long time to truly come back to feeling like yourself (or your new self) but it will get better bit by bit. It sounds like that process is already started for you. And, I love your shoes (totally my style) and would love to know where you got them.

  18. Glad to see your post, I was afraid it would be awhile before you would get back to it! And the shoes...wonderful looking and the look comfy.

Glad to hear that your son is able to come in for the weekend, nothing like your kids, right!?

Have a wonderful time with both your boys.

  22. I'm glad your interview clothes fit, and I hope they are too small soon! I lose weight during difficult times, and it's very annoying when people tell me I look good. I'm tempted to say "Thanks, it's because I feel like sh*t". I'd love to see your new hair style- I bet it looks fab.

  23. Nothing like a great new hair cut and some awesome shoes to brighten your day.

  24. Glad to hear things are lookin a bit brighter. Seeing Maarine will be a real bright spot and having both the boys home will be FANTASTIC!

  25. Love the interview shoes! I didn't lose my job but have realized that I'm not in my department's long-term plans, so I'm in the same looking-for-a-job boat right now. I actually bought VERY similar shoes for interviewing, except that mine are black and have a wedge heel. Great minds think alike?

  26. Hi Debbie. A lady after my own heart. Shoe shopping is good for what ails you.
Glad to hear that you are a little more upbeat today. Good luck with your interviews and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck and my best.

  28. Debbie,
I've been following your blog for quite some time, but have not left comments. You've encouraged so many of us with your sewing wisdom, and now you have the support of your faithful followers. I wish you the best in your job search. A new hairdo always makes me feel better -- and new shoes too?? Way to go! Enjoy the weekend with your sons!

  29. Debbie,
I'm so glad to hear that you have found (or went out and got yourself!) some positive stuff to focus on. I'm also happy to know you have read all your fan mail. :-) You are loved, and it is nice to see such undeniable evidence as these posts.

Enjoy your time with your sons.

    Best wishes,
    Kay

  30. There isn't one of us that hasn't gone through a difficult time. It's always good to have the encouragement and well-wishes from blog friends. Be strong and feel all of your feelings...it's the best way to get through.

  31. Shoes are good :-). And can work as well as chocolate. Although I do feel your pain about the switch from flip-flops, sigh.

Just one thought about the interviewing stuff, sorry. It's very good if the fit is right. But are the styles and colors still current? Can you think of tiny updates that might bring 3-year-old stuff right up to the minute? Sometimes a scarf in a different color or print, or different shoes, can do the trick.

And I'm very glad the kids are coming through. Not always obvious, so clearly you did a good job raising them :-).

  32. I'm a lurker in the sewing world, and I read sewing blogs in the hope that I'll one day screw my courage up to sew. I was so saddened by your post. Just so you know, I've been through a divorce, and I've lost a job, and I came out on the other side with a husband whom I adore and a job that fulfills me in so many ways. Hang in there!

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
