Again With The Crappy Mirror Shots

Can you tell I've got some time on my hands?

I was digging through my closet again and pulled out this suit. It's still got the tags on it. I have no idea when I bought it but judging by the skirt, I was probably still in my 30s. Being blue, it's not even one of my colors but it's not horrible. I wish these crappy pics showed the actual color. But the good news is that it's an 18P with a pencil skirt and it fits.

Anyway … I was playing with lengths by pulling the skirt up and down. Are you ready to give your opinion? Here we go …

Original length. I know it's too long for 2011 and I wouldn't wear it now at this length, but I like it. I've got very thick calves and it hides them nicely.

Shorter …

Even shorter …

As an A-line (blech)

Parting Shot: (which may take a few minutes to completely download and play through) — This is a B/W animation showing the usual routine when I'm taking mirror shots. I think it's a hoot!

  2. I'm no help; I like the proportions of the original length the best! Your animation is cool!

  3. I also vote for number three. It balance well with the jacket.

  4. Number 3, definitely. The skirt looks more or less the same length as number 2 but the legs below it look longer.

  5. LOL! Love the moving picture with the head flick. Yes it's a hoot!

Back to being serious. I think #2 might have potential but only with heels, high heels. I know how you feel about those. :) So my favourite by far is #3. It looks good with the lower heel you have on. I suddenly see you (your face) and don't even notice the skirt, which is good. It makes you look more youthful.

Agree with you about the A-line and the original length. Btw, you have good legs. Show them off more!! That shorter length (#3) in a pencil skirt is a good length for you. Love the whole outfit!

  6. I forgot to say, like I haven't said enough already. LOL! I prefer your blouse tucked. The proportions seem better to me when the blouse is tucked in, combined with the #3 skirt length. The catch though is how it looks without the jacket. Something else to think about. :)

  7. No. 2 but with the blouse tucked in.

  8. Great animation, how did you do that??

I vote #3. It looks really nice on you.

  9. I'd really go for the longer length on you.

  10. I also vote for #3, which to my eye is the most youthful and flattering. We're young yet!

  11. I like #3 also, and the animation is too cool!

  12. Even shorter Babe gets my vote! :)

  13. Number three gets my vote too.

  14. Shorter! I agree with Belinda that you can get away with shorter heels with number 3. Love the animation - get the dogs in shot next time!

  15. I like the shortest pencil length. But aren't longer skirts coming in? You may be just very "current" if you stay with no 1.

  16. I'd take the 3rd option. It looks great with the jacket

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am coming out of lurking to say you are looking amazing!
And go with number three - makes your legs look longer, and looks flattering!

  18. Me and my two daughters (19 & 10) all think number three is very flattering on you. Love the animation!!

  19. Definitely #3. The hem is at the narrowest part of your leg other if you wanted it long but not floor length.

  20. I have larger calves too and my instict would be the longer length for that reason.
That length is back in fashion - at least the fashion pages say so.

  21. I think skirtlength nr. 3 is a winner.
Congrats on your weight-loss, you're doing great! It's so encouraging when clothes that were once too small, are starting to fit again.
Say hello to mr. Amir from me (I just read your story 'the long journey'), that man is an angel! I'm so glad for you he came your way.

  22. The suit has good proportions with the skirt long, but it's most flattering for you in number 3. Kate

  23. My vote is for "even shorter", number 3.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Number 3, with blouse tucked in is my vote.

  25. Number three in my opinion! and no A-line! You are just glowing with your new look. Congrats on the continued weight loss!

  26. I think before you decide you need to put on the shoes you will wear with it which could make a lot of difference in its look at the different lengths. I struggle with lengths also as my legs are heavy and I have the vein thing going on as well. I would put on the office pumps and pin up very slowly if shortening(I like the longer length. One thing to think about is the hose/tights issue when selecting the length since it is hot where you live. I would only wear that very short if I were planning to don those but that's me with the veins that show. mssewcrazy

  27. Definitely tuck the blouse and go with #3.
but really, they all look fine, just that #3 looks a bit more "with-it" for today.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think you look great in the "even shorter" skirt.

    ReplyDelete
  29. #3, the even shorter, length definitely. #2 hits just at the widest part of your calves which is exactly what you don't want it to do. #1 just looks too dated. Also, I don't think the a-line is that bad, but it doesn't go with the jacket.

  30. Definately number 3, the overall look is the most flattering!!!
    You go Girl!!

  31. I vote number 3 and it could even be 1 inch shorter.

  32. I'm in for #3. The proportions look a little better. The skirt seems a bit shorter than the jacket (from the bottom of the jacket hem down). The two pieces should not be the same length. When they look exactly the same it seems a bit off. I have to really watch this when I am dressing, too. Plus the skirt hem hits the part of your leg that is curving in and not across your the fullest part of your calf. I think the proportions of #1 are good for you, too, which is probably why you bought this suit in the first place. If the longer styles are really coming back you might want to think about that, but you've really had that suit long enough to worry too much about that. I say cut it off.

  33. I think "even shorter" flatters your legs and shape the best. it hits your legs right where they start to curve in for the knee and that is a nice, shape defining length

    ReplyDelete
  34. I like #3 best, but I'm not sure if it's because of the volume or the length. In #3 you're showing a bit of knee and I think it is a majorly flattering length on you, while #2 is below the knee (slightly less flattering--best to cut off at the narrowest part, which is the knee) and I am swayed by that in looking at proportions. I thought sewing was supposed to train my eye so I could see past that sort of thing!

Either way, though, you look great in it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm with the crowd on no. 3. You may be self-conscious about your legs (certainly they look good from where I'm sitting!) but truly it's the proportion of the outfit that just leapt off the page to me. You've got it, flaunt it!

    ReplyDelete
  36. You're looking great--super haircut, sparkling eyes, and big smile. Option 1 with the longer skirt looks fine, especially since longer lengths are coming back. They never really left for me because of calf issues, so I've always pretended they were fine!

Option 3 also looks good, particularly because the blouse is tucked in.

Another option would be to make a coordinating dress in a really drapey fabric (maybe using your new favorite dress pattern) in a length similar to your new orange/rust print dress. I think this would look great with the jacket and would give you another business-look outfit without much effort.

I really enjoyed your moving pics.
    More, please.

  37. I'm also voting for number 3; that's hitting you at the right spot to make your legs look their longest--

  38. Love the animation....you will have a to do a tutorial on how you did this :))

I vote for #3 with the blouse tucked in. This outfit looks fantastic on you.

  39. Number 3 is my choice. Good balance. Looking good.

  40. These are the best blog posts ever. Of all time. Do you have any idea how funny and totally gorgeous and alive you suddenly are? You look terrific. Oh and the shortest skirt suits you best. Can't beat a leg with shape.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The A-Line is my favorite--more feminine.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I like the original length, too! It reminds me of what many of the women on our Canadian House of Commons where. Followup choice is #3.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Either the longest one or the shortest, anything in between is not flattering to muscular calves.

I'm not sure what you mean by "2011". Styles anymore really are not dated by length. Anyone can wear anything at any time anymore. It's kind of refreshing.

    ReplyDelete
  44. long length is the best!

    ReplyDelete
  45. So what did you decide? What length are you going with? Personally I think knee length works the best and looks more now...but what did you decide upon?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I like #3 the best as shown, but I wonder how it would look right at your knees as a straight skirt instead of your A-line version. You look great BTW!
