SS5593 AKA The Palate Cleanser

After my cutting fiasco that will eventually be my Hot Patterns dress, I still needed a new dress for my trip. It's not like I don't already have a bunch of new clothes, right? ;-) Um. Yeah.

So, before I started the USMC purse, I snuck in another See & Sew 5593. I wear the crossover version I made earlier all the time and have wanted another. Now I have two I will wear all the time because I LOVE this one too.

And I will love the first one even more because I took it in at the CB seam so it doesn't hang so tent-like from my shoulders as it's been doing as I continue to loose lbs. Now it looks like I have a waist from the back view. I made this same alteration to the new dress, as well as sewing the sideseams with 1-1/4" seam allowances instead of 5/8". I'm not sure what pattern size this equates to now — probably 16-ish? I need to do something with the first make, the orange stripey one, because it's really too big and I'm not willing to give it up.

I think I need to buy another copy of this pattern the next time I'm at Joann's and before it's OOP since I cut it and will probably want it smaller as I get smaller. If I forget, which I'm likely to do, I'll just keep taking in the sideseams forever.

Here's me in the new dress, with wet hair. Seems like all my pics lately have me with wet hair. Hmmm.

And the back view, with New! Improved! CB seam shaping, which is hard to see with me holding my hands on my hips so just trust me. ;-)

Now, back to pursemaking …

  1. Wow, you are so fast! And you sew fast. I've been looking at that HP dress. It looks interesting, since they are on sale until the end of the month.

Have a wonderful trip. Maybe it's going to cool off in VA...not so much in NC.

  3. Debbie, did you eliminate the ties? I do not see them in the pics, but the prints might hide them. I love your choice of fabrics. And the pattern looks so good on you. I bought that pattern and just need to find the right fabric so I can make it, inspired by you.

  4. Yes, I did eliminate the ties. I don't like dresses that tie behind my back - they feel juvenile on me.

  5. Very flattering, even when 'clicking to enlarge'. I like the way you added shape to the back of the dress.

  15. Love the dress AND the shoes! From not too many alterations not that long ago to double width seam allowances? I believe you are becoming the incredible shrinking woman before our eyes. You look great! Donna

  16. Looking good! I am guessing the wet hair has something to do with the heat requiring 3 or 4 showers a day...at least that's how it feels here in DC (today is a lovely reprieve from the humidity, though).
