Moving On

There has been no sewing in these parts for far too long but it's past time for me to check in lest you all forget about me. :-)

I've been busy looking for and at possibilities for a new home. I think I've found it in the house above. That's a Google maps pic and not me sitting out front. It's not definite yet, and I hope this posting doesn't jinx anything. But if it does, then it wasn't meant to be anyway.

The house is in Tampa proper. It takes me 9 minutes leaving my office at 5 PM to get there. It has an extra bedroom (or two) for a sewing room. The bedrooms are nice and big. The closets are not. Understandably since it's 100 years old. It's quirky and not a cookie-cutter. Which is a big change for me. But it's time for me to leave the suburbs and I love where this house is located.

Even if this isn't the house, I'm still going to be spending the new few weeks tossing, packing, and moving to somewhere, so I'll continue to be very light here.

Does anyone need a dining room set? A treadle? TONS of unused fabric? ;-)

  1. How time flies. It seems like you were just looking at houses last week (when you and your ex parted.) Good luck in your house hunting. We'll be here when you get back.

  2. I read your blog title and {screamed} said, "Noooooooooo". Surely she won't drop the blog.
    Relieved.
My commute is now 8 minutes - 3.5 miles form work and I love it. It has freed up so much time (for sewing). Not to mention the cost savings of not filling my gas tank up more than once a week.
    (more money for fabric!)
    Good luck winging your way.

  3. I too live in a hunderd-year-old home and love it. No closets to speak of, but hey- loads of charm and a sewing room all my own. My commute is about 3 miles door to door. Much better than the 45 minutes I was going before. I love it. Several neat little shops on the way home too:)

  4. Is this house in the historic district?

  5. I'm hoping this means you are buying the house, not renting. The thing is, if you are creative at sewing you will be creative at fixing up this house. I flipped houses for years after I divorced and, although arduous and dirty, it's more fun than you imagine. Just yesterday I saw a floor tiled in copper pennies...cheap and gorgeous but not easy to do. Old houses are much more interesting than the cookie cutters and usually the neighborhoods are too.

  6. Hope you get it if as you say "it is meant to be". One thing to think about is a corner property with a STOP sign can get very noisy depending on the neighborhood. I live in suburban Philadelphia on a corner with a STOP sign and in the summer it gets very noisy with motorcycles, trucks, and cars blasting their music. Of course we are talking Philadelphia :)

  9. Oh, awesome. I'm going to be in Tampa again the last Wednesday of April until that Saturday of May. I'll email to see if you're available for a meet up while I'm in town. I need not a treadle or more fabric. But, I am hoping to find a pre owned Bernina while I'm in town!

  10. Good to hear from you and I am so sorry you have to go through the hell of moving again, I just moved 3 months ago and I am still not fully settled in!
I must say that house looks and sounds very appealing, especially the short commute.

  12. I knew you were looking for new place. Interesting-I live in an older home and just hate it and would love to move to a suburb with a newer to me home.

I hope all works out well for you and will be keeping an eye out for new posts.

  13. Ha! I don't need the fabric :). Living in the city will be fun. Hope you get the house or something even better. I live in the suburbs but also work in the suburbs - my travel time is about 10 minutes on a bad day, can't complain about that.

  14. Craigslist the dining room set but keep the treadle and the fabric. I know it will be a b*tch to move but you will be glad you have it later on. I'm hoping this is your new place too. I moved several times after I divorced before I found the right place for me financially and space wise. You will be fine and glad that you're keeping us updated!

  15. I miss your postings. The house has potential. I live in a old house. Larger rooms are a plus for me, smaller closet space is ok. Love to have fabric I use most of mine to sew T-shirt dresses for Africa(one of my charities). I wish I live closer and not in Southern California.
Thanks for sharing. Hope all goes well for you and your family.

  16. I know about no closet space. Our house is 90 years old. I need say no more.

Good luck with the house. I love old houses but sometimes wish I was in a newer one!

  17. I love old houses, as there is a comfort to be found in them that I just can't feel in a newer home. I wish the best for you and I've missed seeing your awesome sewing results. I'd gladly help you move and settle if I were closer. Keep us updated , even if it is only a hello!

  18. I live in an old house. It has soo much character.

I hope the pattern pyramid has reached you already or before you move.

  19. Good luck, hope you get the house!
Have you considered consigning your DR set? The Missing Piece on S. Dale Mabry consigns furniture. They pick up for a small fee. (No relation, just public service!)

  21. Hey Debbie, Great to hear from you your posts are always interesting and I've missed them. Just throw me a bone every now and then!

Good luck with house, I'm with you, if it's meant to be it will happen.

  22. You are moving closer to me, I am, in Clearwater. If you are de-stashing any knits, I just might be interested.

  23. My house is 91 years old, with the same small closets. You can live with that for the personality of the house (although it's hard to hide the vacuum cleaner). Take the fabric and treadle, or you'll be sad if you give it away. Good luck with the move.

  24. Good luck. The house is beautiful. I love the charm of old houses, even if they have inconveniences like one old bathroom and tiny closets.

  25. Oh, I thought you were closing up the blog too - so glad you're not, but sorry you're having to pack up again so soon. Fingers crossed you find a great place. This one if it's meant to be *smile*

  26. That sounds like a fabulous location -- so close to work! I'm sure you'll have no difficulty finding takers for any unused fabric you don't want to take with you. :) I hope it works out and you end up with a home you love. I just bought one and am eagerly awaiting the end of April to move in to mine.

  28. Good luck with your next move. I do enjoy old and quirky and a short commute is fabulous. Hope all goes smoothly and you get to be your creative self again soon.

  29. I like old houses - they have more character even if they don't have much in the way of built ins!

Thankfully for my already too large stash I'm in the wrong continent to consider shopping from your discards.

  30. Good luck with the house!!!! And of course the whole sorting/reducing/packing/storing/moving/unpacking crap. Ick!

  31. I had a similar sigh of relief reaction to an earlier comment:) SO glad you are still blogging, I look forward to and enjoy every post xx I second the 'keep the fabric', though if you feel the urge to mail any to Germany, feel free xx Lots of luck with the house and a smooth move!

  32. So jealous on that commute! Mine is usually an hour, I can't imagine less than 10 minutes.
As for closets, there are some lovely wardrobe cabinets out there. you could also get a shoe rack for all of your cute shoes.

I'm sure you will work it out, then you can get back to sewing and creativity.

  33. Waiting with baited breath for your next blog post!

  34. Yes, I need fabric, and oh yeah, a treadle machine!!!!!! For now though, I visited your blog, was encouraged and sew nominated you for a Liebster Award. Hopefully you qualify, giggles - I just liked what I saw and got to nominating . . . http://sewcroandquilt.wordpress.com/2014/04/10/liebster-award-nomination/

  35. Just came by to see if I'd missed anything - and since we haven't heard otherwise, I really hope that means you've had a very smooth move into a house you enjoy. I live in a 90 year old house and the lack of cupboard space and difficulty in adding built-ins when you've got decorative ceilings is s pain, but older houses are definitely charming and room size in older houses is definitely more generous than in newer places. Good luck with the move and all that packing and unpacking!

  36. Hi Debbie I hope that you have settled into your new home and found a job that you enjoy. All good thought to you and your family, I have been thinking of you all as I make my first visit to Miami and now I understand your sewing so much more! it IS hot and humid!

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
