Found!

I found both my sewjo and that big stack of missing patterns. Life is good.

Here's me today, back in the work bathroom for selfies, sporting the new 2-piece dress (aka skirt and top). And boy do I need a haircut!

But first, the missing patterns.

I have no explanation for not looking in this little chest/box which I walk past at least ten times a day, except that I must have just mentally ruled it out, thinking I already checked it. So glad I decided to double-check my assumption. It was like Christmas and my birthday all in one! And good to know that I haven't quite lost my mind. Yet.

Last post, I talked about mashing up my TNT Ottobre tee with the Love Notions Laundry Day Tee, the main reason being that I felt the overall upper bodice shape of the LDT was not the shape I knew I prefer for my tees. I did keep the LDT neckline and neckband piece, and swing shaping at the hemline, and I'm happy with those. The vee neckline shape is very nice and the band went on without a gape or pucker. I'll definitely use this neckline shape again. (Side note: Does anyone remember the Jalie 2005 tee and how that neckline stormed the online sewing world?)

I probably should've planned the seam on the band better relative to the print, but overall it's just not that noticeable from a regular distance, especially given the focus-pulling wild print. Or it's laziness. Or both. You be the judge.

Here's the top before any hems were sewn. Even after we all know the CF of the band isn't symmetrical, are you really noticing that? Yeah, I didn't think so. :-)

For the skirt, I used one of the long-lost-but-now-found patterns. I liked the flippy-ness/trumpet shape of all the lengths when I originally bought it, and still did once the pattern re-surfaced. The length I sewed is between Views D and E. I can see me using this pattern a LOT since it's only 2 pattern pieces and 3 seams and takes less than a yard of fabric for even my generous posterior.

So-so pattern matching at the sideseams. It's not an exact pattern to match so good enough is good enough, and about all that can be expected.

A quick hanger shot of the skirt. I decided to place the horizontal stripes section at the top of the skirt so they would be "hidden" under the top when worn. I thought it would be too much of a good thing to see one more row of those stripes. The eyes wouldn't know where to rest. I'm happy with that decision.

The whole outfit on Zillie.

I'll be back soon because I have another finished project to share, and I'm expecting a fun sewing blogger meet-up tomorrow. Stay tuned!

    1. I like blogging but don't always have the time to devote to it like I did when I was a SAHM. Thanks for missing me!

  7. Nice outfit! I like your clever pattern placement, drawing the eye to the waist. I filed that skirt pattern as a maxi skirt, now you've inspired me to try the shorter view!

  8. I'm so pleased to have you back! Great choice on the pattern placement, and you are right, the neckline binding isn't noticeable at all. Did I mention I'm glad you're back?

  9. I'm taking a blogging break currently because in addition to my scary OT work schedule, I've had two different family crisis's to make time for. The sewing (my happy place) has fallen by the wayside until I can figure out how to add it back in. So glad to see you back talking about sewing. You always inspire me.

  10. Thank goodness you found all those patterns because that's a lot!
I like the way you've used the zig-zags on the neckband in this outfit - ties it all together nicely!

  11. I'm always happy to see your posts. So glad you found the lost patterns. My friend tells me that the Bible says when you have lost something, you should "Clean until you find it" Like the woman who lost the coins. I don't like that theory, but it usually works. I just started on my sewing room, and while purging patterns, I found the pants back piece I have been missing for a couple years, of course the pants that fit the best! Cutting out some pants this weekend.

  12. LOVE seeing you blogging and sewing! I'm in St. Pete and would LOVE to see my sewing heroine, but I've got my special needs 7 y/o and grumpy 79 y/o DH in tow and a relaxing meet-up that would NOT be. I think a cheap Spirit flight and a short weekend relaxing alone would be far preferable! Love the new outfit!

  13. I'm hoping that the good news of found patterns means you've also found you sewing mojo again. I hope you are back to posting more often, though with all you have going on, and knowing how much work it can be to post, I totally understand if it doesn't happen.

I like how you used the fabric on this dress, and my eyes & brain totally don't see the "flaws" even after you pointed them out.

  14. I've been doing slow cleaning out in my sewing room so I totally relate to "surprise" finds when of course the items have been there all along. I love the design placement on your neckband and the whole design process. This is so why we sew, to make it perfectly us!

  15. Lovely outfit, Debbie! I was just thinking about you the other day and then your blog post popped up in my Bloglovin email (which I rarely open but did this one!). Glad to see you got your sewing mojo back, mine has been gone for a couple years now, somewhat replaced with knitting. But I'm determined to get my sewing room space back and get back into it by fall! Looking forward to reading on a regular basis and glad to see you and the boys (men!) are doing well!
    Cheers!

  16. Isn't losing your sewing mojo depressing? Glad that is over! I really like the asymmetrical placement of the pattern.

  17. Love this 2 piece dress on you. I always like black and white together - such a classic combo. I did not notice any issues with the neckband until you pointed it out. You look great in this dress!

  18. That is a lovely outfit. The fabric is great and they look like very versatile pieces. You look lovely in them. Xx

  19. Oh goodness that's a great outfit! Seems odd to see you in black and white, but also kickass. The print is awesome, and I love the way you used it. I had to stare at the photos to see if you'd pieced the fabric to get the band around the middle, or if you'd just carefully placed the print. Lovely job!

  20. you make me want to design clothes online. And thanks for pointing out this pattern. I don't often pay attention to New Look (no idea why) and I am going to make sure I get on this ASAP.

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
