Dude, Where's My Sewing Machine?
I have never seen Dude, Where's My Car? but apparently nearly every male 25 and under has, including my sons. So, instead of sewing something for me, I'm currently sewing not one, but TWO, bubble wrap suits.* My sons are off to MetroCon** this weekend dressed as those guys above from the movie.
For the past couple of months DS#1 has been collecting bubble wrap by the yard as it comes into our house nearly every day (work-related and FREE!). Today, I took some time off to sew the suits. I can't wait to get pics of them in full costume - it will be hilarious.
I also can't wait to sew something for ME. Maybe this weekend?
---------------------------
*It may even stretch to three suits, since there's enough bubble wrap and DS is trying to get another friend of his to dress up too.
**Yes, we know MetroCon is mostly Anime but DS#1 insists they will still fit right in. I have no idea. ;-)

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.

I saw your comment elsewhere about sewing these and I was anxiously waiting your explanation. You are such a fun Mom to help with these endeavors. Can't wait to see the pic! May have to rent that movie someday...right after Harold and Kumar...
ReplyDeleteHow are you sewing the bubble wrap? I tried a while back and it barely fit under the presser foot and the got stuck.
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
Ha, I'm one of those people that just has to pop the bubbles so my bubble wrap suit would be flat by the end of the day (not that I'm likely to be wearing one anytime soon!).
ReplyDeleteRebecca - I'm using a Teflon foot to sew the seams. But before I get to that part, I pop all the bubbles along the seam line so the edge fits under the foot.
ReplyDeleteAllisonC - Hahaha!
That's what I like about you...you'll try to sew anything!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, I'm sure they will be happy with the final product and fit right in! I hope it goes smoothly for you!
ReplyDeleteHaving sewn many costumes and spirit day outfits, bag of nerds candy for nerd day, tube of toothpaste with a giant toothbrush, a wolly mamath, etc.... But I have never ever worked with bubble wrap. What fun. Can't wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun, but extremely hot here in FL!
ReplyDeletedid it pop pop pop as you were sewing? How funny!
ReplyDeleteDo your sons appreciate the fun-ness of their mom? Bet yours don't refer to you as a "fierce midget" like mine do.
ReplyDeleteI bet that sounds pretty funny as you're stitchin' along! haha! Sounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteHow funny and how lucky they are to have a mom as talented as you. I'm sure you'll have to pop some bubbles to compress the seam allowance. Fun! Can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteOk....disregard my comment, I see you posted you will be popping the bubbles. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou are such a good Mom!
ReplyDeleteHa! Ha!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the finished product.
I'll have to ask my son (he's almost 25) and my daughters if they've see this movie. I'm not familiar with it.
I too, would be popping the bubbles the minute I put the thing on! NOT,(like Allison) that I would be likely to wear one anytime soon (especially if you wear practically nil underneath as the picture seems to indicate)!
You certainly are a fun MOM!
