4th Time Is the Charm (Almost)

That's the wallet graveyard. Except for the one on the right — I'm keeping and using it. But it still has one mistake. I can live with it, but I really should stop sewing into the wee hours because it was totally avoidable had I been paying better attention.

But I was on a roll. I added a new "option" and I was in a hurry to see it done. It's a flap to hold more cards which slides into the left pocket …

… like this:

Nifty, eh? (I have lots of cards!)

But not lots of dollars. ;-)

Here's the outside, and my glaring error. Can you spot it?

I put the zipper pocket on the wrong side. It still works fine. It just doesn't look as nice. (Note to self: Make this step EXTRA clear in the instructions.) I had already trimmed the seam allowances really close or I would've ripped and turned it. Sigh.

This evening I will start putting the instructions together. I am definitely not sewing another wallet for at least a few days.

  1. Oh - I like that with the extra card pocket! A great add...

  2. Laughed out loud at the end of your post. Every time I sew a wallet, and it's never with a pattern, I think, "Wow, that was great! Look how gorgeous that is!" and then, "I'm not doing that again!"

  3. Debbie, those wallets are rerally cute. I have nit used a wallet for at least 20 yrs. I keep driveers licemse and dollars in my checkbook. But your wallets make me thinkof changing. Eag to see the final patterrn.

  4. The differing color at the ends of the zipper is a bit offputting, but it's a nice design. And good for you, adding card slots!

  5. Wow! Look at all the sewing you did! They look great, but since I've sew multiples of things (as gifts, usually) I totally get the "I'm not sewing again".
I love the extra card slide in thing-y, a great idea.

  6. Oh, I completely get the "I'm never sewing this again!" In fact, I've been known to take a pattern straight from the sewing table and put it in the donation bag. That's usually for something badly drafted and/or with impossible instructions, though.

I like the little pop of color with the zipper, but I'm assuming it can be easily switched out for a more sedate option -- say, if one wanted to make the wallet for a guy.

  7. Hurry up with that pattern, partially kidding, this has Christmas present all over it. Great idea.

  8. You have thought this out so well. I can't wait to see those directions, too!

  9. A mistake? Yeah - how many people would actually notice?

I know, I know, you would! But nobody else....

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
