Bra-vo!
Review here.
A couple of comments on the dye job. I am NOT a dye whiz. The dyes I used I purchased a long time ago from Elan when they still had a website. They are powder "jacquard" dyes which seem similar to the Acid dyes Dharma sells. You only have to add vinegar to the hot water/dye bath. I did this in a stainless steel pot. Most bra fabrics are nylon, which dye very well (and very fast). Polyester won't dye at all at home. If you don't know what color you want when you're done, sew with nylon thread (YLI makes some) so the thread will dye too. That's about the extent of my dye knowledge.

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.

WOW, it looks awesome. Job well done.
ReplyDelete(Bra and dye)
So the white (and copper) bra from the previous post is this one? Wow! Amazing dye job, and sewing too.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed. You did a fabulous job. Makes me feel guilty for not sewing for myself more.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! One day I will attempt sewing a bra! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThat is really pretty!!!
ReplyDeletePretty bra! I liked seeing the before and after with the dye. It's hard to believe the bra was white yesterday.
ReplyDeleteWow Debbie! Incredible dye job! How's the fit? And, will you be making more bras?
ReplyDeleteI am very impressed! I've never even considered making a bra. It seems quite complex.
ReplyDeleteTerrific looking bra! Thanks for all the detailed information you included as you went along (and on Pattern Review). When you need to order more fabric/supplies, where do you go?
ReplyDeleteThanks--Judy
Wow! Beautiful looking bra. Great job.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!great job
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice looking bra! I'm sure you will get a lot of use out of it! Great dye job too!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBravo! and Bra-vo! Very well done! It is so hard to get well fitting bras for those of us who are not "average size" (whatever that may mean).
ReplyDeleteWonderful job! In awe of your sewing talents.
ReplyDeleteLovely! You lucky gal, it's a beautiful copper colour and fits you perfectly. Stunning!
ReplyDeletewow. what a stunning color. if the dyes say jacquard, then they are the same as those sold by Dharma (if you want to get yourself more).
ReplyDeleteGreat bra!
Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy mouth is still open as I sit here. Lots of bras people make have a home sewn look.(I've seen lots in past years as there used to be a vanity fair outlet in the area and people could get matching fabrics, findings and trims-which you did not even have but had to dye.) Yours is gorgeous.I can't even get some simple exterior clothing sewn and you have a wonderful bra pattern custom fitted and a new lingerie wardrobe all done. I am totally in awe of you-wonderful wonderful work. mssewcrazy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bra. I must try to make one of mine own.
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteI'm also in awe!
Thanks for the dyeing tips.
Where do you get your fabric?
ReplyDeleteThis bra looks superb, Debbie! Everything you sew looks so professionally made. Did you construct it on a serger or sewing machine? What stitches did you use?
ReplyDeleteGreat bra Debbie, looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYup, you're a genius. I suspected, of course. ;) (Lovely brassiere!!)

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! It looks like you did an amazing job.
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie! I have also made the Danglez DB4 and like the pattern. I have a technical question for you: how much stretch did you use in the band elastic? I used -20% as stated in the pattern directions, but have been told that it is better to use less.
ReplyDeletethanks for the tips on dying. I'm getting ready to take the plunge into bra making, but have been discouraged by the lack of pretty fabrics. I think I will try dying. Thanks!
