Veteran's Day always takes me back to the first Veteran's Day parade I saw. It still brings tears and pride. Not brought up in a patriotic family, in fact very anti-government family, and just married to Navy man; I had no idea of what patriotism was. That day I was so taken by the respect, admiration and pride; something I can't put into words because it was so overwhelming for me. But the salutes that day....they were not just a motion, they were a connection; really looking each other in the eye acknowledging their brotherhood. I knew that they would die for each other even though they didn't even know one another. Putting their life on the line for all of us became real for me that day.
My oldest son is an officer in the Navy. He started out as a whitehat (enlisted) and worked his way up. He has been in hazardous arenas numerous times because of his rate/specialty...all of which I don't find out about until afterward or at all (thank goodness!!!). Given all that, I would like to thank his wife and family as well as all the families of the military for serving their country alongside their mate. It is not an easy life. They serve their country as well.
Thank you! For letting your son follow his dream even though it isn't yours. I understand the sacrifices made on both sides and truely appreciate them. g
I just posted Thank a Veteran on SG (Chatter). Last I looked, one comment! I miss my brother and brother-in-law. (WW11) They were true patriots. Fly the flag and thank God that we can. Best to you when you attend your son's graduation.
Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
