From here on out until at least mid-May, the posts will be random, scattered, and pretty darn boring. The moving experience has begun, and the only sewing thoughts will likely be mention of packed books, fabric, machines, notions, etc.
And with that note, I give you my first packed boxes in which are all of my sewing books. Unless there are some scattered about in the sewing room that didn't make it into this group. Which is highly likely. And I'm not really GIVING them to you. Presenting, that's what I meant. ;-) I will need these puppies again one day soon.
Do you know (well, you will now) that boxes from Home Depot cost ONE-THIRD of what U-Haul charges? Crikey. At HD, the prices range from 69¢ to $1.12 each. Boxes are $2/ea and up at U-Haul. So glad I found that out before I made a costly decision. I bought 60 boxes yesterday to start. Ten small, 40 medium, and 10 large. I will need at least double that. Isn't moving fun?
Speaking of "fun," the guy who helped me yesterday at Home Depot tried to pick me up. Really. It was flattering but also kind of weird. Especially because I now have his phone number. (At his insistence and it was just easier that way, trust me.) But hey, at least I'm not dead yet. lol
Back to move talk … I've decided to let Alex and Co. off the hook and hire an actual moving company. They will get the job done quicker, will come with multiple hand carts and pads I won't have to rent, and none of us will have to maneuver a big ass truck. Plus, the pricing is pretty darn reasonable since I'm only moving about 2 miles away.
And now the rest of the decent wedding pics …
And have I mentioned lately how much I LOVE my job? Yep. Still do. Even though the person who was hired as another me backed out and it's still just me doing the work of ten. Perfectly fine with me, and all the OT is going to pay for my new leather sectional and flat-screen TV, still to be purchased. If only I had time to shop. Catch-22. lol
All great news and a dream wedding. So many flowers. good luck with your packing a decluttering as you go. Yep bring in the removalists. It's a poo of a job. I suppose you feel awfully guilty seeing your pay in the bank when you love your job so much! lol good for you....
ReplyDeleteUsing a moving company is a really smart move...you will NOT regret it! I didn't realize home depot sold boxes. I ended up ordering them from u-line using the company discount so that they weren't that pricey. My best wishes are with you during this move!
ReplyDeleteBefore you go buying any more boxes, check your local craigslist. Someone here is always listing them for free. Keep your eyes pealed in your area for free boxes.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your move!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the move. You will not regret hiring a moving company.
ReplyDeleteAll happening now! Hope the move goes smoothly.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move and I bet you will be so happy you hired movers. The wedding pictures are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteDeja vu--we moved last month. I am almost unpacked! We bought lowes boxes, only because it is closer than HD to us. I agree having movers is the answer. DH and DS moved lots of boxes for us, but furniture and appliances were left for movers. Best of luck I this process! Toss what you don't love or really need. Very refreshing!

I love the whole idea of moving 2 miles away. The stress of making sure everything got packed is just a tad less.
ReplyDeleteThe pick-up made me smile into my coffee. Hoo-rah.
You look so great in the wedding picture with your son. It looks like a wonderful affair. I have not moved in 14 years and I hate to think about such things. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteCan i just tell you, you look stunning? And happy. Win!
ReplyDeleteIsn't packing fun! I'm doing that as well. I assume you don't have a hard date to be out of the house so that's a bonus.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the wedding was lots of family fun
As long as you get OT, fine. Otherwise, that can get old. Beautiful wedding! Good luck with the move. Professionals are the way to go, I wouldn't do it any other way!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't buy boxes! Go to Barnes and Nobles or another retail store on a weekday when it is quiet and nicely ask. I worked at Borders and we always were happy to give away our boxes once they were empty. Liquor stores are good too.
ReplyDeleteOmg I love her wedding dress! I need to figure out how to copy that!
ReplyDeletecongrats on the move! Can't wait to see your new sewing room! Lemme know if you need help setting up and organizing. I'm good at that! I'm free most Saturdays.
Good luck with the move. I agree a moving company is best.
ReplyDeleteLove, love the wedding pictures, especially the one of you and your son.

Pretty wedding. With all your weight loss, the resemblance between Tyler and you is really strong!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the moving. You can just leave your clothes in dresser drawers, and supermarkets are always happy to give you boxes they no longer need. Saves a lot of money. I last moved 23 years ago, and remember the nightmare. Good luck to you.
good luck with the move...the fun part will be unpacking...still need to finish mine. Seems a lovely weeding
ReplyDeleteAre you also aware that Home Depot/Lowes sell moving boxes? Just a thought.... if you need more, most things they will price match and give a 10 percent better price! Good for you... moving co. is smart... saves your back too!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely pics from the wedding! I do so adore men in their dress uniforms, and you look like you had a fabulous time.
ReplyDeleteBe cautious about trusting sewing machines or anything really antique/precious to a moving company. We have always moved our delicate items ourselves, thanks to a tragic incident my mom had with a moving company and a family heirloom table. For the grunt stuff? They will do just fine.
