Did I Say TNT?

Hah! I'm so fickle when it comes to patterns. But I am going to stay true to a simpler-style tee as the next make. Just not so simple as to be plain.

I've been liking all the interpretations I've been seeing made up of Simplicity 4076, View B (below). This pattern was so very close to the top of my To Do list.

But then, after a leisurely evening of perusing my latest pattern and magazine acquisitions, I saw a tee pattern in Diana Mode #23 which caught my eye even more. It also has a gathered scoop neck, but the neckband is wider and shaped. And I love the pieced and gathered sleeve detail.

It would be great for the summer wardrobe to have this top in 2-3 different colors (and my stash will definitely support that plan), but for now I'm going to concentrate on a knit "muslin" which can maybe double as PJ top so I can test the fit. I'm guessing that for an out-of-house version, I'll need to do an FBA, increase the hip and bicep width, and maybe lower the neckline a little but maybe not because it may not lay flat once it encounters the 3D terrain. ;) From my centimeter-to-inches conversion of the Diana sizing chart, it seems that these patterns are drafted for a slightly shorter height and center back length than Burda so I may not need to adjust shoulder-to-waist length. The muslin will shed more light, so that's what I'm off to do now.

  1. I am kicking myself very hard in the rear. I had that magazine in my hand on Friday evening in the supermarket and placed it back on the shelf because I didn't want to be bothered with a FBA to get my size...uuhhhmmm..now that I see it here, it looks really enticing. Uuuuhhmmm.

  3. I always learn something reading your blog, Debbie. I've never heard of Diana Mode #23. Is this a magazine? Where can it be seen/found?

I have sewn the Simplicity pattern you mentioned several times and have plans for several more versions of the scoop top. I have lengthened the sleeves. Cap sleeves don't work on my arms. :)

  4. The Diana Mode top is very similar to a RTW top I wore to work yesterday. Instead of gathers, there were tucks, and there was an insertion of gathered chiffon in the neckband. The chiffon was dyed to match the knit fabric. Very cute! I can't wait to see what you do with this pattern.

  5. I have sewn the simplicity pattern and like it, but I like the Diana Mode even more. Is this from the magazine you got on Ebay?

  6. I LOVE that Tee. How can I get my hands on that pattern? It will look great, of course, and oh, so much more trendy than the Simplicity.

  7. I love them all! Before reading what you said in the post. I was thinking ooohhh B is so perfect! Good taste. But, then I saw the scoop with the gathered sleeves. That's a hard decision. Love them both!

  8. I just ran out yesterday and got the Simplicity pattern. I have the scoop/gathered neck one with the "fluttery" sleeves, cause I didn't feel like messing with making the cap sleeves longer. I will get that made up tomorrow I hope. I do like the other one you found, may have to alter my pattern after I get the sizing right.

  9. ooh, I like the sleeves - and may copy the concept. I've never heard of Diana Mode before, and now I've gotta find one.

  10. Debbie,
Can you take a picture of what the sleeve pattern looks like? The sleeve and the hem treatment. I like it a lot and I am making the similar HP weekender top and thought that I could adapt the sleeve to copy your pattern.

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
