Things are happening here in real life. The biggest change is that I'm going to go back to work outside the home. This downward spiraling economy of our sucks big time, doesn't it? Even more than the thought of donning pantyhose again.
So, for the moment, the blog is on hold while I think about and prepare for what I need for dreaded interviews and then the office environment, and whether I'll be sewing or buying. But hey Carolyn, maybe now I'll be sewing corporate wear too! ;-)
I really just wanted to pop in and say I'm alive and well, and for everyone not to wonder about me.
It certainly does suck. Do you really have to wear pantyhose in Florida? Though of course it is cold in air conditioned offices.
ReplyDeleteUgh, that's too bad, Debbie. Sorry to hear you have to do that. Good news is, at least you don't have toddlers, eh? I'm grateful my daughter is still able to stay at home with her little ones.
ReplyDeleteSelfish me is excited to see the corporate wear you might produce! In all seriousness, though, best wishes to you as you get back out there.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to join in and say I'm excited to see what you whip up for corporate wear. I know it won't be boring!
ReplyDeleteSorry about that icky work thing. I find that work gives me time to think about and plan my pieces. If you can't actually sew, you can think about it.
ReplyDeleteThat does stink, Debbie. Good luck with the job search, we will miss your posts and wealth of information. I am with the others, your corporate wear will be incredible.
ReplyDeleteYou have a really big fan club online. We want what is best for you even if it means the time you spend helping all of us will be put into your own needs and job search. I cannot begin to say what this blog and all your fitting efforts have meant to me who did not have a clue how to even start with an fba. I hope the blog stays up even if not current as I really enjoy looking back at your projects and trying to absorb the info that it contains. When you do not post for awhile, I study the back projects. I am planning the khaliah ali jean capris soon that because of you I stashed the pattern and will reread it when I am ready to start. Hang in there. We all go through life cycles when the sewing is on a back burner. I hope you find a really wonderful job that you love going to and you can still sneak into the sewing room now and them. mssewcrazy
ReplyDeleteUghhh, I'm sorry to hear you're going back to work, but I am excited to see what great 'corporate wear' items you will be sewing up! Good luck with interviewing, etc.
ReplyDeleteWell, take heart in that you could end up at an office that's casual like mine: My uniform is jeans and a top, occasionally I'll wear a jacket or blazer. Any more dressed up than that and people will think I'm interviewing for another job somewhere. Good luck with your job search, and if you're as helpful and articulate and web-savvy in real life as you are in virtual life, then I'm sure you'll land something great right away.
ReplyDeleteWhat that stinks you have to enter the workforce again. I hope you find a position with favorable hours and one that you enjoy going to.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find something really soon and your new job my give you some mojo to start you corporate wardrobe indeed
ReplyDeletegood luck on the job hunt. Unless everything else is fantastic, avoid working where pantyhose are required. Maybe the FL governor can ban pantyhose?
ReplyDeleteWell, being selfish, I hate to see you go back to work... fewer posts on your blog. Please keep this up & going, even if we hear from you less often; I've learned so much from you. Good luck with your job search.
ReplyDeleteOne good thing about self-employment: you don't have to require yourself to wear pantyhose. Best of luck in the search, and we hope to hear from you as you progress through this change. Plus, we may get to see more corporate wear, like Carolyn's, as you said!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you posted, after 10 days of silence I was beginning to get really concerned.
ReplyDeleteAnd Yeah, economic downturn and pantyhose do kind of suck. I hope you find something fast and that it's to your liking.
Just think, you'll have all sorts of new wardrobe requirements.
Meanwhile, your frequent postings and contributions on PR will be missed.
Don't go away completely if you can help it.
Good luck! Marji
Good luck with job hunting! I really enjoy your blog. Hope you can still post occasionaly.
ReplyDeleteFirst, good luck. I hope you find something you love. Nothing worse than going having to work somewhere you don't enjoy. Second, I'll miss your frequent posts. Please keep us posted as time allows, and let us know how things are going for you!
ReplyDeleteAdding my best wishes for a successful job hunt! I'm sure you will all adjust very well, but still - a change is a change and it just takes time to get things rolling along smoothly again.
ReplyDeleteI'm also adding my thanks for all the information you've posted to your blog. I've learned so much from you! We'll all still be here when you are able to post again!

I hope you find something that doesn't leave you hating life. You should be allowed to soar. I'm sad we won't be hearing from you quite so often but good luck in your search.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the J-thingy. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for you that you find the perfect situation; one that will allow you to meet you financial goals and leave plenty of time for your creative side.
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much for all your words of wisdom. Working can be wonderful & awful & challenging & doesn't that just sound like being home full-time. I wish you all the best because you deserve the job of your dreams. Anyone who hires you will get the BEST!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the hunt. Sorry to hear that you have to do that. I hope you can do casual wear where ever you wind up.
ReplyDeleteI recently found a job on craigslist.

I think you should find a "second" job (other than your first job as Mother, Wife, Housekeeper etc etc ...) that you can telecommute from your home. With all your skills, you should be able to find somethig like this. That way, you wouldn't have to leave your home and this would be a GOOD THING since I think Dani, Chili and Pepper need supervision. They would eat all your pillows and start on the furniture! Or worse yet, your PATTERNS! Think about it.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with the "hunt"
Oh what a shame! But the good thing is you will get to dress up. I am sure that is the only reason I work!!!! (oh, yes, and the money.)
ReplyDeleteGood luck in getting the perfect job. :)
Well, I am going to miss your sewing musings very much, so I feel selfish towards this new move but good luck with your endeavours and I hope you find something which makes it worth your while and sewing time.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Debbie. I have a feeling I'll be doing the same thing at some point, trying to put it off as long as possible. But the new wardrobe required might be fun. . .
ReplyDeleteI hope you find something that is fun, challenging, and casual attire required! Good luck in the job hunt and thanks for sharing your sewing and fitting expertise with us! I too look forward to seeing what you create for a work wardrobe.

Welcome to my boat. Stash building time awaits. Thank you for blogging, generously sharing your sewing life with us. Wish you the very best. Oh and try stay-ups instead of PH, they are great, really.
ReplyDeleteDebbie - I know what it is like! The upside is that it can be very exciting and rewarding to reenter the "outside" working world.
ReplyDeleteI started a job in January - in addition to being a full time farmer I am now a crop insurance adjuster. It took some getting used to but I am now back to blogging and sewing, but I think that if you love something enough, (sewing - not working) you will make time for it. We are in a similar place in our lives- you with your boys and me with my girls. I am planning a blog article about that whole subject in the near future.
Best wishes on your work search. Hope you find something fulfilling, too. And that allows time to enjoy your sewing hobby afterwards, eh!!

Good luck with the job hunting! And if you need any corporate clothes advice, just let me know!
ReplyDeleteI wish you luck with the job hunt! This economy is really tough, but I'm sure that you will get a great position! And if do sew up a career wardrobe, I'm sure that a lot of other sewers (like me!) will be interested in the results. I like you for more than your detailed tutorials (and I've learned a lot from them), but I appreciate seeing your pattern and fabric selections, too!
ReplyDeleteThat does suck. The good thing is that more and more corporate dress codes aren't requiring pantyhose and, actually allow dressy cropped pants or capris!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes on the search.
-Nneka
I'll bet you need fewer pantyhose than you expect. No one here wears them except for women in very conservative positions.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the search--I expect you'll find a phenomenal position!
I'm not sorry you're going back to work outside the home, other than the less blogging thing. I think you'll find a wonderful job among the many you're offered because you'll dazzle the recruiters with your snazzy outfits. As to having to wear pantyhose, I thought wearing them was no longer de rigueur. Now I'm confused and will have to see if I can retrieve my old inventory of them from the trash barrel.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I wish you the best of luck in finding a satisfying, fulfilling job.
you made this announcement whilst I was on a blogging break and I missed it! But I hear ya...I'm starting to seriously consider dusting off my (ancient, out of date, sadly lacking) resume, too...
