Finished (and it's still early in the week!)

The top is done! And even better, I like it. Here it is with the brown capris I recently made. This will be tomorrow's outfit.

Here's just the top:

And a close-up of the front:

I can't take any credit for putting the fabrics together. They are both from the same piece of border-edged fabric.

I used an Ottobre sleeve, which is gathered top and bottom, and then added a band from the contrast fabric.

Here's the final back view:

And what it looked like before I realized my cutting goof. I really should look out for these things more carefully. This was completely accidental, but glaring once I saw the pics I took on Sunday.

It didn't take too long to rip out the old bottom, cut a new one and sew everything back together. It would've been a lot worse if I had noticed *after* I had sewn the sideseams.

  1. I am really impressed with this top how did you manage to get the sleeves looking so ruched . Its a very nice fabric . I really like your waistaband and the ruching to accomodate the "girls" . All this when under considerable stress. Well DOne

  2. Really cute top and outfit! I like it! Re the cutting goof, yep we all do it, constantly. :) It's good that you noticed it early on and were able to fix it. Thank goodness for dress forms and photos. :)

I hope you got your letterbox fixed. I think you got your answer as to what the contractors were going to do about it. Run it over. (rolleyes)

  4. That's a really cute top! And what a lucky save too. I usually only notice stuff like that after I've sewn it together.

  6. I love this top! Great outfit. Where is the fabric from? Do you figure the fabric amounts differently when you have a border like this?

  7. Since I have this pattern, can you show your drafting changes on this one? How much did you have to change the armhole to fit the Ottobre sleeve?

  8. Did you say what pattern it was you used for that top? It's totally darling. If I was a millionaire, I'd hire you to teach me to sew as well as you sew. I could totally see myself in a top like that. It will look darling on you, I know.

  9. Nancy,
I've got a review for previous makes of this on PR. (Claire, it's BWOF 05-2006 #111.) I originally copied the WOF pattern with my pattern drafting software and then I morphed that pattern with the 02/2007 Ottobre tee, so the armholes were already Ottobre. No modification necessary. But if I were using the non-modified BWOF pattern, I'd just trace the Ottobre armhole so the sleeve would fit without question.

These days I rarely use a knit tee pattern from scratch. It's easy for me to morph a TNT into most knit tops and requires less or no fit alterations when I do that.

The fabric is from Gorgeous Fabrics (sold out) and no, I don't figure fabric amounts differently because I usually buy fabric first and then decide what it's going to be later.

  10. Very cute outfit! What pattern did you use for your capris and did you serge the elastic to the fabric at the waistline?

  19. Love that outfit. You have really insprired me to start sewing again. I saw that you made some demin capris. You said it was a TNT Simplicity pattern. Is it still in print?? It looks like something I have been looking for.

  20. I love this top! I think I may copy you. What did you do for your sleeves at the bottom. It looks adorable. I just started walking again and attempted to walk down Little Rd, thinking surely they have finished these sidewalks by now! They have poured and torn up several places 3 times. It is the craziest thing I have ever seen. I think those guys are clueless!

  26. I absolutely LOVE this outfit :) I really love all the clothes in your wardrobe. I am plus-sized & decided since there is such a meager selection out there, it's time I make my own wardrobe ;)

I am new to Otto & new to knits, but, I can sew & am hoping to soon have the start of an awesome Spring/Summer wardrobe.

I'd love to follow your blog but, can't find where to do that? Please email me if you get a chance # cheryl n chuck @ comcast.net (no spaces)
