Suitably Confused No More

As I told Carolyn, one of the main reasons I haven't made a suit is because I didn't have enough of either jacket fabric to make a matching skirt. Well, I was in Joann's about an hour ago to pick up more muslin, some serger thread, and to trade a washaway marker I bought last week for one that actually works (grrrr, how frustrating!), and I looked through the fabric as I always do but didn't see anything new. Still, for whatever reason, today I really looked at the brown suiting fabric that's been there for months and like a lightning bolt had hit me between the eyes, I realized that THIS is my brown jacket fabric! I thought my fabric was the brown RPL that I bought from Emma One Sock a couple of years ago, but apparently I was wrong. (And now, besides feeling foolish — but thankful it wasn't real lightning — I'm wondering which stash entry actually is the EOS fabric.)

I've had this skirt pattern near the top of the queue for a while (Butterick 4877), and I think it will become the skirt for my suit. View D, the skirt on the real model … who has actual hips and looks quite beautiful, I might add.

Whether I actually will wear it as a suit is still to be decided, but it will be nice to have that option if I need it. Right Carolyn? ;-) Oh, and a brown skirt will go nicely with the 2 new RTW jackets I bought over the weekend. Ahem.

  1. Debbie, that's a nice pattern and will make a lovely skirt for a suit, a bit more playful than a formal straight skirt too. I don't think it hurts to have something a little more formal than you think you'll wear. You never know when you might need it! Besides, the pieces can easily be worn separately with the other pieces you've made.

  4. Debbie, your progress with this wardrobe is amazing to me. I have more work clothes than casual clothes (casual only comes two days a week...some weeks zero days...so have to have more work clothes) when I look back at your posts, I don't think my work wardrobe, acquired over many years, does have as good a job as yours....Yours is so multifunctional....great job. (Ok, no pun intended) ML

  6. Debbie, I just have to stop and say Hi. I've been reading for a while now and have been so impressed by your skills. When you wrote about putting the buttons/buttonholes on the wrong side I had to laugh. It's so nice to know you are human! I thought you were some kind of superpower! What really empressed me the most was your remake of the WalMart blouse. Amazing!

  12. Debbie,

I love your new work wardrobe! I am always impressed by the quality of garment you produce and how well you are able to fit garments to your size, style, and color palette. KUDOS! Your outfits are stunning and allow for so much flexibility with the mix and match garments.

I wish I could be as creative with a nice casual wardrobe!

Good luck on the job search.

  13. Last fall, I made a skirt similar to the one on the nodel, and I love it! Room to move without too much extra fabric just below the waist, which unfairly adds pounds. Don't you love it when you get a surprise like this...."oh, look, it's the same fabric!" Looking forward to seeing the skirt with the jacket.

  14. Debbie, I've been eyeing that same brown suiting. Kind of a milk chocolate color. I've been looking for something like that for a while, and I also had one of those lightbulb moments. I think I'll have to run up after work today and get some. There's a long sewing weekend coming up....

  16. Every washaway marker I've ever bought doesn't work. I thought that's what they're supposed to do?

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
