In for a Return and Out With Shoes
I stopped by Dillard's on the way home tonight to return the three dresses I'm not keeping. My bank account sighed in relief. On the way out, I tried on 6 pairs of party shoes and left with one pair. I've pretty much decided that strappy ain't for me, both in comfort and in flattery. The end of a work day in heels is a good time to try on new shoes. If they feel good then, they will feel good all night at the wedding.
And, yes, I've heard the anguished cries against my sheer black hose thoughts. Truthfully, black wouldn't look good with these shoes anyway. But sheer black hose are 1980s? Really? I'm not convinced. So now I've got to find some sparkly NUDE hose that both fit my thighs and stay up all night. I'll probably go undergarment shopping over the weekend and pick up some then to try.
These shoes are a lot more sparkly than they look in the pics - the "body" of the shoe is silver metallic texture and the front thingie is covered in rhinestones. The heel and platform are silver. I will probably look at more shoes because I was really hoping for something more decorated but these are pretty and comfortable and if I don't find anything else I like better, they will be just fine.
The big boss is taking us out to lunch tomorrow, for some relaxation and laughing now that the big weekend event is over. We're going back to the Hyatt. It was nice last time and we had a great big private table. Word is they have a fajita bar on Tuesdays. Yum! And good for me since I can eat everything except the tortillas with no guilt. I'm down another 2 lbs since last week and I don't want to stop the momentum. Now that I'm THE graphic designer, it's up to me to come up with the "awards" in the morning. I started them Friday, actually, since I knew they were coming. Good thinking, 99. (If you get that, you're old like me. Yes, I'm looking at you Belinda!)
And hey — look what was delivered to me today!! I'm SOMEBODY! lol Now I need to make myself a business card holder.
And, finally, I'm curious — did anyone else receive what was essentially spam from McCall's? An ad for skin care crap? How exactly does that relate to sewing? I would unsubscribe but then I'd miss the pattern sale notices. Which might be a good idea after all. ;-)
That's it for me tonight. Time for some DVR vegging and planning tomorrow's outfit, with shoes I can walk 5 blocks in.

Oy, those shoes are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Business Cards...that means its official :)
I got that spam from McCalls as well...did not make sense to me...what is up with that?
Beautiful shoes!
ReplyDeleteGood call on the shoes, DJ!
ReplyDeleteI like those shoes very much!!!...they seem quite festive to me.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that there's anything wrong with sheer black hose. Personally, as others have said, I wouldn't chose black for the fabulous teal dress.
Great looking shoes. Got the same email from McCalls, I was surprised and confused as to the connection with sewing and facial products??
ReplyDeleteI don't think the black sheer stockings are 80s just not right with the dress you've chosen. I love the shoes by the way...with some sparkly hose...you will look tres chic!
ReplyDeleteGot the spam email from McCalls - WTF, beauty products from a pattern company????? Like you, I thought of discontinuing my membership, but I don't want to miss the great sales...such is life!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shoes! I agree, black nude won't work with those. But sparkly nude?! Wow, I don't think I'll ever be ready to put sparkles there. ;)
ReplyDeleteI know for my university age bracket, sheer black hose are IN. Two words: Catherine Middleton. She wears sheer hose with pretty much everything (royal decorum and all that, possibly), and almost single-handedly she has brought them back.
ReplyDeleteAnd now, because none of that except the first sentence was really my idea in the first place, my source: www.tomandlorenzo.com They discuss sheer hose in relation to Kate with some frequency.
So rock those sheer black hose! (Just, as you said, not with silver peep toes. :D )
Well, I'm alarmed that sheer black hose are 1980's because I'm wearing them as I type! I agree that sparkly hose are great with your chosen dress and I adore the shoes.
ReplyDeleteNobody took the bate, so I will...
ReplyDelete"...said Max!"
I remember it well! 99 was a gorgeous brunette. It's funny, back in those days we only had 2 TV stations and our little 11" B&W TV. We thought GS was great then, now it makes me shudder!!
Can't believe where the time went, I'll catch up with you in less than 3 years!
Ooh, I like those shoes! But not so sure about sparkly hose. Where did that come from?
ReplyDeleteSince I am not a pattern addict, all of those McCall emails get deleted if not put into my spam filter from the get go. I am not hauling them out to check.
ReplyDeleteI miss the day when we thought GS was smart. We expect more (than 300 channels). We had five channels growing up plus the pirated HBO. My dad, the physics whiz, made a receiver out of an aluminum (round) sled and a coffee can.
Exercise wasn't needed because we got up and changed the channel.
Glad your weight loss continues. Hip, Hip, Hooray!
Yep you brought a flashback right into my head, shoe phones and all.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to be rocking that reception!
Yep.... good ole Maxwell... and you didn't have to worry about what was going to be said on T.V. then (well I didn't... my folks may have had to)....... "missed by this much"!
ReplyDeleteLoL... those were the days! The shoes are great... good luck with the continued hunt!
LOL! Me, old? The old lady looking back from the mirror is my evil twin sister don't you know? :)
ReplyDeleteOMG, I LOVE the shoes! LOVE!!
Shoes are spectacular!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress, sexy and elegant.
ReplyDeleteYour smile and hair color go perfectly. I wouldn't detract from this.

Love those shoes!
ReplyDeleteI got the email from McCall's too, thought it was odd, shrugged and deleted it without even reading it properly.
Thanks to Duchess Cathy, sheer hose (both black and nude) are making a big comeback. I agree - nix the black, but nude will look great with the shoes and dress!
ReplyDeleteI got that email and was quite... perplexed. I may end up sending an email to some contacts there to find out why they feel the need to "diversify"
Gorgeous shoes, great taste - they are the shoes my daughter, Erin picked to wear on her wedding day! Nude hose would be my pick. Congrats on the business card!
ReplyDeleteI need dressy shoes. It's almost embarrassing at this point when the best I have are pumps! I think I didn't realize you were in the Tampa area!
ReplyDeletePretty footwear. You could always hot-glue sparkly pavé gems on the heels I'm with the other side about your hosiery choice: black hose always make me think that the lady wearing them is trying to hide her varicosities -- I don't think "1980s." I think "She's in her late 80s." (Sorry, Deb!)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the Permanent Job (plus fab benefits)!
ReplyDeleteOh, I just looked at you pics from your previous dress post. I think those black hose are not sheer enough. Some of your dresses would look good with black sheers, some better with nude sheers. Macy's Hue Tights are ultra sheer or the Berkshire Hosiery Ultra Sheer with sandalfoot for open toe shoes. There is one with a shaper and invisible toe (at Macy's).
ReplyDeletebtw love your shoes.
I didn't know sheer black hose was 1980s! I do know that the last time I tried to find black hose, all I could seem to find was charcoal. I play in a concert band and prefer to wear a dress, which has to be all black, and since most members wear pants, I want black hose! I will say though, that I do think the hose should not be darker than the shoes. So yeah, when you said black hose and silver (or black) shoes, I did a "huh?!". I love that blue dress!
ReplyDeleteBlack sheer hose are not 1980's - they are timeless. My aunt wore them in the 60's. It is sometimes hard to find a true black though. I agree the black hose might compete with the beautiful teal dress you chose and the nice silver shoes. In the end, it's all up to you, and you make wonderful choices.
ReplyDeleteI got the McCalls skin care thing, too. I wondered, WTF?
ReplyDeleteLove the shoes. They'll be great with that dress. Look for white hose to go with them, maybe. Sheer white hose won't come out white, but will be sparkly, like your shoes.
I had the same reaction as I deleted that mccalls email. Love the shoes BTW.
ReplyDeleteLove your shoe choice. The McCalls spam was just so wrong.
ReplyDeleteI selected you to receive the Versatile Bloggers Award, come on over and pick it up for your site.
ReplyDeletelove the shoes! I vaguely knew hose were out of fashion for a while, but still kept seeing them for dressy occasions, so maybe they were out of style for day-to-day wear?
ReplyDeleteRe the McCalls spam - 2 thoughts
1. they were hacked (might want to change your password?)
2. they are owned by a mega-conglomerated-corporation that owns companies in just about everything. Sometimes they share customer info between them. Like the Privacy Notices we all glance and and throw out say.
Wow it shoes looks amazing. I like this pix so much. Its attractive to every one. You have done fantastic work.
ReplyDeleteThose shoes are totally droolworthy and I hope you get scads of wear out of them. I so wish I could wear heels (sensible ones of course) but I've had fusions of both big toes thanks to arthritis and can only wear flat shoes now Blahhh.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit behind on my blog reading. I caught the 99 reference, I loved Get Smart although I'll admit I saw it in reruns. I often say "Sorry about that chief" and people take the chief part a little too seriously missing the reference. Somewhere I even have a coffee table book about Get Smart. They wanted to call her 69 but they didn't think that would get past the censors. ;)
