Still Thinking
I think this one might be it. I tried on the finalists again this morning and this one definitely fits the best front and back, except for all that bra hanging out the top. Plus, it has a little shoulder coverage which is good for someone of my ADVANCED AGE. OMG, 23 days people. The only thing I don't like is that it kinda smushes the boobage. But I have enough that I can spare some smushing and still have boobs. ;-)
I really like the black ruffle tier dress too, except the neckline isn't as good on me as this one or the red one. And I didn't realize it, but this teal dress is also on sale and I only paid $55 for it. (I was in a shopping stupor and not really looking at price tags.) I can keep the red one and this one and still be under $100. Amazing. I just hope I find somewhere to wear the red one because it has no sideseams so it can't be taken in later. I just hate to return it because at just $35 it's almost free, you know? ;-) At that price, I can just wear it around the house a few times and be happy.
Here's what I'm thinking — First, sheer black hose. I don't want to go barelegged because (1) my legs are incredibly pasty, (2) pantyhose sucks in the gut, and (3) I think sheer black hose are sexy. Really, more for #2 because I can always go buy a tan. Then again, maybe I can find an industrial Spanx-like full body shaper torture device. Then, black or silver shoes with lots of sparkle and height. Something very sparklie at the neck but costume, not real. Sparklie earrings but demure, because too big will be over the top with a blinged out necklace. My sister has a collection of lipstick purses (evening bags/clutches) and she'll bring me one to use so I don't have to worry about that. I also bought a ruffled black shrug last night for $30 that I could easily make for $10, but whatever. Now I won't have to and I'll have something to throw on for the A/C if needed.
So, up next is the hunt for shoes, underwear, jewelry. Not necessarily in that order. Finding the right undergarments is going to be more work than finding a dress. Don't you hate that?

Yay, that's I one I was hoping you'd get! I like the red one, too, so you're going to have to get that one, as well. You CAN'T leave that one - it's so summery & flattering.
ReplyDeleteYou'll look beautiful...this is a great color for you!
ReplyDeleteI think you chose the right dress, this one looks the best on you, and the color is great.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think this is the one! The black tiered one is cute, but you look hot in this dress!
ReplyDelete~Jamie
That dress looks great on you! The lines are so flattering. I hate bras poking out at the top of things, too -- there are at least a dozen garments in my closet that I can't wear because I don't own any bras that fit me and hold everything up properly without protruding at the neckline. Boat necks, be damned! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave fun at the wedding!
YES YES YES YES YES. Sorry, I get a bit excited. You chose the right one, at least according to the pictures. The ruffled one is cute, but maybe for a different event.
ReplyDeleteI'd wear the sheer black hosiery too. And some killa shoes.
I think you look especially great in the reddish dress with the "floral" neckline!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I got a second vote it would be for the teal "venetian blind" dress.
ReplyDeleteLove this dress! As for a pantyhose/shaper I highly recommend the high waisted spanx sheer pantyhose that come up to just under the boobs. Shaper and hose in one! The cheaper Target version called Assets is equally recommended.
ReplyDeleteThe teal dress is perfect!
ReplyDeleteYay! I love your choice, you look so elegant and glamorous ....
ReplyDeleteI like the one that you decided on too! Can I offer some advise on the rest of the process?
ReplyDeleteFlexees makes this all in one spanx slip that allows you to wear your own bra and in addition, it pushes the girls up and together. I bought one of these at Macys.
Try Donna Karan sparkly nude colored stockings. They are a little pricy but have a shimmer that would work better for this special event. I don't think they come in control top but you won't need it with the spanx slip.
And I would only get some sparkly earrings and bracelets as jewelry accents...please feel free to ignore any and all of these tips...*smile*
And you will look AMAZING in that dress for the wedding!
Great colour on you - stated before - now you have permission to source new shoes and accessories to match!
ReplyDeleteI liked that one the best, classy and an absolutely great colour on you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the rest of your shopping. New shoes too?
Wow, definitely the blue. Classy, chic and slimming. If it were me, I'd go neutral on the legs and shoes (whether pumps or strappy heels) to elongate the leg.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the rest - liked this dress the best. I always used to think it was considered bad luck or poor taste to wear black to a wedding, but since I haven't had many weddings to go to in the last 10 years, I hear that has changed. Now I'm to that age when my kids/nieces/nephews etc. are starting to marry, so I'll have more opportunities to shop/sew this type of dress.
ReplyDeleteThat is one killer dress - can't believe the price you paid! I think it is very flattering - especially around the bust area. I would go for a skin toned hose - I think black with the teal wouldn't be as nice as skin toned. Can't wait to see the complete outfit - shoes bag etc - hopefully a pic from the night?
ReplyDeleteNice choice. Glad to see you went RTW shopping. So much easier.
ReplyDeleteLooks great on you. My Sofie has a similar bright blue one but much, much shorter. I think these dresses are very sexy. Personally I don't like the idea of black hose with this. why not some nice shiny nude pantyhose? Looks almost natural but a nice sheen. Then some gorgeous silver sandles - maybe with some bling?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! That's the right one! You;ll look smashing!
ReplyDeleteMe again....to further clarify...I think black is too predictable. show off your new shape by keeping the dress on show. Black on the legs will just sort of elongate the dress. You could also colour block the shoes..green, or orange, or red....? Anyway, just MHO.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! That's the right one! You;ll look smashing!
ReplyDeleteI love Donna Karan nude hose. I don't wear them often any more but when I need them I search these out. They seem to be the perfect shade and so not "hose" looking.
ReplyDeleteI say excellent choice and I agree with Carolyn re the nude stockings and sparkly earrings/bracelet, but what do I know?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the reveal!
I love the dress! Sheer hose would look much better than black, and it's a more current look. Black hose, unless with a black dress, is very 80s.
ReplyDeleteThose were my two favorites. You will have a special occasion to wear that beautiful red dress in exactly 23 days...
ReplyDeleteI like this one best. Very flattering! :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't get a chance to weigh in earlier, but that one is my personal fave: it has both great style and perfect color for you.
ReplyDeleteI've never worn Spanx, but I always thought if I did, I'd deliberately get a size several sizes larger than specified, for comfort. It would still smoothe out the lines, and you could still breathe. I buy my pantyhose at least one size larger than indicated, and it's never uncomfortable, even when I lived in FL. Can't wait to see the "finished" ensemble!
Oh, as speaking as someone 6 years older than you...my heart bleeds.
ReplyDelete;-)
Seems I'm in good company with Peter & Carolyn on the nude sparkle hose, bracelets and earrings - no statement necklace that would take the attention from your perenialy smiling face! Love the dress you chose. Is that the style of dress they call the bandage dress?
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous in that color. Definitely the right choice.
ReplyDeleteglad your picked this one - it was my favorite!
ReplyDeleteOk, even know the red dress is my fav (it frames your face neck so pretty!) and you picked teal - i still like it very much but please do go w/nude sparkly hose. I also think black hose w/colored dress is 80's/90's style. Can't wait to see the shoes!
ReplyDeleteSew, I think that dress looks amazing on you. With the right undergarments and snazzy shoes, you will rock the party!
ReplyDeleteHow about adding some sexy fishnet or patterned tights? They are very hip right now, you can get some beautiful lacy ones at JC Penney's. I am your age, and wore some the other day when I did a presentation. Afterward, a man in the class (of mainly women) came up to tell me he loved the tights and wanted to know where to buy some for his wife (also my age). I was a bit surprised but there you go.
You could totally rock lacy tights with that bod of yours!
Great choice and I totally agree you need to get the red one as well. Both are so pretty, but the teal looks like a perfect colour fit for you.
ReplyDeleteThe black hose is starting to fade out these days, I think, except maybe for winter. Some other great suggestions here from others.
My secret for pantyhose and body shapers is to wear your hose under the shaper. I have a one piece shaper I got at Ross that has power net and boning that is actually extremely comfortable. Pantyhose under that stays in place and doesn't roll down, even when I sit.
I also agree with some of the others on the nude/sparkle hose; the black would be too heavy and also nix the necklace; it would be too much going on in that area. You will look stunning.
ReplyDeleteWow. This is the one.
ReplyDeleteYou know... the red one even if it doesn't have side seams... you could put some in if you need too. I mean, who's to know? Just you... no one else would know... cause when you loose more weight... (I'm living vicariously...cause I'm sure not doing a very good job of loosing anything!)you can still take it in.
ReplyDeleteI like the teal one too... it's cute!
WOW!
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome in that!!!
Heck, you look awesomein general!!!
Things are looking so good for you Debbie!!!!
Like someone else said, I'm smiling for you!!!
