A Woman's Prerogative

So, remember how I said last night that I would be doing the pantyhose thing today? Hah! When I stepped out with the dogs this morning at 7 a.m. and it was already 4 billion degrees with 3,000% humidity, I quickly moved on to Plan B. Like I really needed an excuse to wear my new jacket anyway.

(Do you see the Dani legs hiding behind me and the white Chili blur to your right?)

That's the lime green slinky skirt with the jacket which, for some reason, I had forgotten about until I saw it in the closet this morning … even though I had originally put it with the jacket fabric in my planning stages. The brain. Sigh. It does what it wants, when it wants. ;-)

I wore "Sondra's shoes" (sorry Sondra, I'm keeping 'em) without hose and was gloriously comfortable and looked pretty darn good anyway. Besides, I think I'm always more attractive when sweat is not running down my face. LOL! So, I'm already re-thinking the pantyhose thing. Self-tanner and/or real sunshine is much more comfortable to "wear."

Of course, 5 minutes after I got in the door and had finished with the photo above, I was wearing this. No pantyhose required. Chili approves (and reminded me to clean that mirror!).

  1. I love that outfit! Okay, here's my take on the pantyhose. I refuse to wear them. Period. However, knowing that other areas of the country are different than here where relaxed is the name of the game, one always needs to look professional. What I do when I need to wear a nice skirt is invest in a great pair of Spanx. Get the kind that come down to just above the knee and that makes the thigh area oh, so much more comfortable. If you know what I mean. Also, If I need to have the look of pantyhose, I wear a longer skirt and kneehighs. No one knows whats up under my skirt unless I tell or show them. And that's not happening either. LOL.

Anyway, of course, that's what works for me. Might not work for everyone.

  2. I wondered what had happened to the lime slinky skirt. Looks great.
F... panty hose in summer! I don't mind it in cooler weather, but in Florida? Yuk

  3. Granted that I work in a research facility, but I never wear pantyhose. In the winter I wear tights, and the rest of the year I go bare legged.

  4. I love that outfit! You ought to get the job based on appearance only! Go self tanner! And obviously Chili likes the coral capris more - that means playtime!

  5. Hope your job interview went well! When will you find out?

  6. Skirt and jacket look fantastic together. That green is my favourite colour of late. I say ditch the pantyhose and go with the fake tan. I live in the subtropics (Byron Bay, Australia) and the only time I wear pantyhose is in winter. No one at work should be getting that close to your legs to check anyway!

  7. Yes! Debbie ditched the hose! Debbie, I ditched mine last summer after wearing pantyhose and suits (mostly) in corporate America for over 20 years. I can promise you I will never go back to wearing hose! I am ever so grateful I work in a place where I can dress casually. Even if I have to go on interviews again, there will be no hose. I would probably wear a pant suit instead with knee highs.

All the young ones that company to our company for interviews wear pantsuits and shoes with no hose whatsoever. I can't believe, now, that I wore pantyhose all those years!

  8. I too adore that ensemble; but more than that, the fact that you do, shows. Look good, feel good, look good; the cycle we're all trying to pin down. Also, I am in total agreement on the tights thing, Who but a masochist would want to suffer that discomfort! OllieV

  9. Love the outfit. That skirt is a real winner, and I bet that slinky fabric makes it move beautifully. As for the shoes, que sera sera. I vote for self tanner for your legs. You're too fair to even think about sun tanning!

  10. Super job, and the slinky skirt worked great!
I don't use pantyhose OR tanner, and I often get compliments on my 'hose'. Ha. I use that airbrush leg makeup by Sally Hansen. Doesn't move off the legs without a shower. It's GREAT in the summer! You can put it right down to the toes if you want! Try it!
I haven't been following you for 2 years (I just found you last year from patternreview) but happy blogiversary anyway! Keep it up!

  11. You know I've been a lurker for about 6 months. Thank you for being so giving with your information.

Just about everything you sew is a knock out.

  12. Debbie:
I truly thank you. I have learned sooooooooo very much from you. I often think how much work this involves for you, and I just want you to know that I view it as a ministry. You are very generous with your time and God-given talent. Here is one person who appreciates it immensely!!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  14. I learn things on your blog even in the comments. I will track down the Sally Hansen as I wear sandals in summer with my dresses well below knee length( I suddenly detest closed shoes in summer at this stage of my life and thanks to the resolve to discontinue wearing shorts at home, I have ugly white legs this year still.
I am glad you resolved the pantyhose in Florida thing. I do like them with closed up pumps for myself ( in cool weather wear time ) or trouser socks with dark dress pants and the type of shoes that they are suitable for as old habits die hard and I find them comfortable in winter. I'm with you on the hot summer hose thing though- chunk em! mssewcrazy

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
