Dress Re-Do for Wednesday's Outfit

I'm writing this Tuesday night but scheduling to post on Wednesday since I just posted some ramblings a couple of hours ago.

After my last post, I got my rear end up to my sewing room and attacked the dress. I knew it wouldn't take long and I was right. An hour, tops, and a good chunk of that time was rethreading my machines, changing needles, and winding a bobbin, and keeping half an eye on The Biggest Loser (OMG how does anyone lose 37 lbs in one week?? Speaking of which, I've decided I want a personal trainer. lol).

Here's the dress before, with 3/4 sleeves and a plunging, work inappropriate neckline.

And after. The sleeves have been chopped, turned, pressed and coverstitched. The neckline was ripped out where it was orginally attached (it's sort of a faux crossover, so there's only very little of actual overlap) and resewn with less plunge. Not bad for a $19 dress from Walmart and a little time in the sewing room. Thread is free, right?

Here's how I'm wearing it on Wednesday (or how I *did* wear it, since my tenses are messed up by writing this the night before). Yep, the dress goes with the comfy shoes. Synchronicity.

And now Zillie is nekkid and I have to decide what's next. Poor Zillie.

  2. Looks great! Is Zilly losing weight too?

  3. I say that Zillie should go on a diet too--that's what I would do next. BTW, have you noticed that you need to make new bras too, or is that holding pretty steady? I've noticed as I'm losing weight that my cup size is getting bigger (Grrrr!), but the band size is shrinking.

  4. Wow Debbie, you're like a kid in your mother's closet. Well, at least in my mother's closet. My mom sews and has always had beautiful one-of-a-kind treasures.

I've been catching up on your posts while having my morning coffee and I just wanted to come out of lurk-dom and tell you how fabulous you look. I think that the brown's combo are especially flattering and slimming.

  5. Love it! I almost think it looks better without the jacket. Has Zillie been losing weight? g

  6. I think I like it without the jacket too - it shows off your new shape !

  7. I love that your dress form is named Zillie! Your dress makeover looks great; kind of makes me want to make some adjustments on some of the unwearables in my own closet. Except that my weight has been trending in the WRONG direction, and part of me says that if I refuse to get big clothes, I'll have to get skinny again or else I won't have anything to wear. So far, the Denial Weight Loss method isn't working so hot... :-)

  10. Perhaps you have been asked this before, Debbie. How do you take photos and not get the flash? when I do this, the photo is blurry because I can't hold the camera still for long enough.

  11. It looks much better on you now! It's amazing what small changes can do, eh?

  12. Cute dress! Love the changes you made to it:)

  13. Somehow I totally missed that you got a job, so congratulations! Love the re-do. The changes are subtle but make such a difference in wearability (though if I had cleavage--I would want to show it occasionally).

  14. Yep, poor Zillie needs to lose some inches. But one thing for sure--it will be easier for her than it is for you!

Thank you for each and every comment. I appreciate them all, but I have to be honest and let you know that I'm usually bad about answering questions. I hope you understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.
